NY chicken lover!!!!

What kinda voltage are you getting on the fence? Just curious - none have mine have tried to fly out, not even broodies with babies or smaller hens that can fly. However, my fence is pretty durn 'hot' so they are scared to get near it. ;) (14,400 volts when not wet).

I dunno, I'd have to look it up?

My husband tried to explain the science to me, but basically they need to be touching the ground to get zapped, and the Ameraucanas always fly AT the fence, and then climb up and over! Of course, now that its out, its on the wrong side and wants back in.

I joke that if they were any smarter they'd take over the world, some days I see them outside plotting, trying to figure out how to ring the doorbell and get me to come out and feed them, lol

I have two flocks behind electric fencing. A buckeye flock and a am/lh X with 1 americauna- flock. Buckeyes will fly over the fence only if severely traumatized, but the Americauna/Leghorns fly over at will. The fencing is the same. Personalities are different. I will be going away for a few days and a young friend of mine will be taking care of my animals. After much deliberation I have clipped the am/lh wings. I hated to do it but I can't expect a care taker to be chasing my chickens everywhere and I want them to be safe. My hope is, that they will be reconditioned to staying in. I really like this fencing though.

Quote: I have an old eye dropper? that says 4ml and 8ml. I am using 4ml for now and when they are full grown I will use the 8ml. I am not sure if it kills the fleas because when I got them they had them pretty good so I had to use a flea bath on them. that was 2 months ago but come to think of it, I have not seen any on them, so maybe it does? Oh and you need to put it on the back where they CAN'T lick it off !!!
Hi Everybody,
Do any of you do crafting w/ our birds feathers ?? If so which feathers are more appropriate for jewelry, hair adornment etc.
You can use whatever you want!
no, its just a water bath canner. It depends on the recipe, so it can be 3 cups to 6lbs! the one salsa recipe that my family LOVES and I mean LOVES is tomatillo salsa! Its the best there is!!
Does anyone have this style of Coop? I need 3 additional coops and I am looking at something like this to be abe to separate my roos, chicks, and breeders. If so, what are your thoughts about this coop.

I saw one like this at the auction this past sat go for $50-60.00 only thing was it had 2 rabbits in it! LOL.
I just went to heat pizza for lunch in the oven. POOF! Big flame, black smoke, and retched stink! Dang mice! I just used the oven a couple days ago with no issue. Signs of fluffy out the back of the stove. This one more thing to clean up this week.

I am a irritated with the retail price and the quality of something like this. I saw one at my local feed store, it was JUNKY! In fact, they were planning on sending it back to the manufacturer because it was falling apart. It couldn't even hold up to being the floor model! It would never make it with the elements up here. I found something else that is sturdy, but no run attached. I could build a run, but extra time is a luxury with 2 small children. If I knew how to use power tools, I would just make my own. If I get a plan for the chicken coop that would be ideal....maybe my cousin could cut the wood for me. Where can I learn to use power tools? Maybe I will just use the good old hand saw. Why are the majority of store bought coops so expensive.....and junky?

Hi everyone!! I'm located just outside of Olean NY, close to the PA line. I started in June with one chick that my son brought home from school. His class hatched eggs. We now have a coop and 13 chickens :) I'm loving the new life with chickens!!

Yuk...been there, done that. The "aroma" seems to hang around forever. Hmmm...maybe they're attracted to my cooking.

I was contemplating one of those coops too to use for just silkies or small trios or broodys. I love the hoop coops, but I think they are beyond my skill set, unless they come in a kit, lol And I have no way to get cattle panels home either. :(

I'm thinking about coming to the chicken meet this Sun, does anyone need Ameraucana Roosters? I also have some Quail hens, a pair of brood/pet Q Bantam Ameraucanas (Roo is clean faced, possible split for Choc from Pips N Peeps in WA) and a trio of Standard Rex Jrs (possible choc carriers) for meat/fur or show. Maybe even a Silver Fox pair. I may even have a pair of Cayuga ducklings, I probably don't need to hold back nine of them...

I need Black, White or Lav Silkies, English Black Orp hens, a Cream Legbar pair/chicks/eggs and Guineas if anyone has them for sale or trade?

Will anyone be bringing a buff Silkie roo? I am looking for one, but has to be of very good quality...not pet for sure!

I'll have blue silkies, no black, possibly a blue partridge as well.
