NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi , I have friends that are looking for some more chickens . Is there anyone locally that is planning to get rid of some hens for the winter ? Free would be great ..Or a small fee ?

Well heck. If I had known you could've saved me a trip to the auction. For what they brought it would have been cheaper to give them away, and I have given birds away. Though these were chicks or a little older.

Coop work today, soffits, so we left the gate open and the birds were free ranging in the grass! They were quite excited, and the youngest bunch was sure everyone would get in trouble, it just seemed so wrong to them. Then I scooted out to get pumpkins. This year they raised the price to $2 per pumpkin. And there was a broken one they gave me for free. The dozen out back were very happy, it's. Been a great day for them.

Where are these $2 pumpkins. I hope to get some squashes and the like to store for the winter. Then give them some through the season.

Not sure what your coop is like but if you don't have a run. You might consider a hoop run. The one I have is not big enough for all the time but if I'm at school, it at least lets them get some air. If you don't know, I just have it covered with chicken wire and that will at least keep the hawk out. Then when you come home just let them out.

I do have a large run, welded wire and hw cloth, with flight netting as a top and several hot wires. It's big enough, just boring for them.

Perhaps you can plant something to grow up over it, like beans or some other veggie vine. I've considered Scarlet runner beans. I've also considered buying some of those plastic things to hold a head of lettuce. Ooohhhh and I just thought. I could string up some squashes or small pumpkins for them to jump at.

Hourigans Dairy in Navarino. Rt 20 W to the light in Navarino, turn right, it will be on the right just pat the fire dept. I get a bunch of squash and pumpkins for the front porch, and then they get opened and moved to the coop one by one as I tire of them.

My Mother in Law has decided that she would like to sell her hens. They are 5months old, 2 EE's, 1 RIR, and 1 Bantam Cochin. PM me if interested.
