It reminds me of that robot chicken joke where the little girl asked the adult why girls have to play softball and the ball is so much bigger than a baseball and the adult said cheerfully " well that's because girls are weaker and less coordinated than boys" and a sign pops up over the screen "Softball, destroying self esteem for (I don't remember how many) years!"

I hate softball, I prefer hitting a baseball. And when I have children if i have a boy who wants to play softball and/or a girl who wants to play baseball, I will do everything in my power to break the gender inequality in these games

I'm from the south where gay people are treated horribly especially the men which in my family its split some don't have a problem with it and some hate it....I personally don't have a problem with it I think its nature...i mean their have been cases of animals being gay so how is it nurture....

My brother went to the one in Chicago this past weekend, looked like fun, but there was a lot of trash left behind from it

Google gay penguins!!!!!

I've seen that thats why I think its NATURE....I DON"T think parents or tv makes someone gay

Hate to take over this thread for a minute but does anyone who else is gay find it very difficult to meet other gay people who dont think you are crazy for having and loving chickens and poultry?????

Nope. But it might have to do with age and location

Edited to add - I wonder if gender might play a difference as well...

Not gay, but I would *think* it would be like anyone else, you just gotta find someone who's into animals. I'd try to move in animal-lover circles, animal fundraisers, farm type events, etc. Do you live near a city? Because a lot of city folk think we're crazy, gay or straight! Speaking from a straight point of view, I have a hard time finding a man who doesn't think I'm crazy too! I met a great guy, and then he said he was "shocked" to see I keep chickens. I asked why, and he said "because they're such filthy animals, I would think you wouldn't have anything to do with that stuff...."

I asked him if he's ever even been around chickens (he's from the city) and he admitted he's never even seen a chicken firsthand. Nor had he been to my house to see how clean and nice they are. Needless to say, he was immediately ditched. I think we all just need to find like-minded people who are into animals.

Oh yeah 20 minutes from downtown Columbus - i think that is the problem you can be in the country so quick here and the main city is millions of people - so they have a city mind and so i meet people but when i say - hey i am cleaning the coop tomorrow you get this blank stare! Or i have to worm the goats LOL

Well, maybe you shouldn't announce worming the goats on the first meeting, LOL!!

I think the city association is a big part of it. Yes, there are some city chicken-people, but the majority are just not country oriented. I remember years ago I lived in Brooklyn, and one time my roommate said "I can't stand the sound of the birds chirping outside my window in the morning." I'm like, REALLY? But the constant car alarms, sirens and horn honking is soothing??? Some city people are just in an entirely different mindset. If I were you, I'd try and get creative and find country/animal events just outside your area. Can't think of anything specific off hand, and of course I don't know your area, but there's gotta be some kind of event search you can do.
