O.K. Who's taken the tree down??

For years I always took mine down on New Years Day and always try to get it up by the first weekend in December. I figure if I have to drag everything out I at least want to get a month out of it. I plan on having it down by the weekend this year! I have the rest of the week off and I have already started today at cleaning out under the tree and trying so hard to get organized.

We always get a real tree and put it up two weeks before Christmas and take it down the day after New Years...always been a good luck tradition...

Mine comes down on New Years Eve morning.
Its a shame that we all get so stressed at Christmas that we want to get rid of all the reminders and cleanse our souls to start the New year fresh.

I had a spritual Christmas and only bought MIkey a present and told everyone not to buy me anything.
I am so $^&$& off with retailers who use this time as an economy boost and we miss the real meaning of Christmas.
I prefer to just have a lovely meal with my families, and drive around looking at Christmas lights.

Mine is down and already packed away ! DH had a few days off work so I told him since you are home - you can help me right ??? LOL
So it came down yesterday- the outside lights are still up only because it is cold and I dont want to go out there LOL
Beside I had to put my christmas village away FAST I need the counterspace to put my new bator LOL
next year I dont think I will put the tree up just the outside stuff and my village but thats a whole year away so who knows LOL
Hope everyone had a wonderful christmas

I agree with beefy's post. My mother always said it was bad luck to have Christmas decorations up after New Year's day. I'm sure that's just an old wive's tale designed to get husbands to help take down and put away the Christmas decorations.

However, who wants to take a chance where bad luck is concerned.

We've traditionally put up a cut tree and dragged boxes upon boxes of decorations from the attic each year. This year we just weren't in the Christmas spirit for a variety of reasons and we only managed to throw up the artifical tree with the built in fiber optic lights with absolutely no decorations on it. Only the wrapped gifts under the pyramidal shaped plastic tree gave one the sense that Christmas was nigh. How pitiful is that?

So taking down the Christmas decorations will amount to unplugging that that sucker, shoving it back into the cardboard box, and throwing it back into the attic. I imagine that the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future will be coming to see us by next year.

It's a wonderful life when you're living a christmas carol.

Did you redecorate it for the different holidays in between? I have heard of some people that do that.

I usually take ours down around New Year. Not sure when this year. It has been such a busy month and right now I'm enjoying sitting at the computer and seeing what is up here on BYC!

I've always heard that its good luck to leave it up until Epiphany, the Christian feast commemorating the revelation of Jesus to humanity, specifically the visit of the Magi ... Which is January 6th, so ours stays up until then.
