President Obama is going to talk to kids about the importance of getting a good education?!?

And then the kids are going to write essays about how to be better citizens?!?

I'm thinking my kids won't go to school at all ..

It's not just the speech, it's the Department of Education's "Menu of Activities" that they sent to the schools for the teachers to have for the students Before the Speech, During the Speech, After the Speech, and Extension of the Speech.

My favorite question is:

"Why is it important that we listen to the president and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor?"

Let's see .... To determine if they are speaking for "We the people" ... or "Me and My agenda" ...

I'm surprised that ANY school is showing it. Test scores are way more important.

No disrespect intended, but I don't understand why it's so bad for children to listen to The President of the USA talk about doing well in school to better their future

I think it's wonderful to get a pep talk from the President as school starts and write an essay about what it means to be a good citizen. In Chicago he was all about education and it's nice to see him follow the same as President.

I think that kids will zone out and not even remember what he talked about. Let's remember that he has two young daughters of his own, and he genuinely wants the best for them too. . .give the guy a chance. I know we are a mess, but we can't blame this democracy. . .its been a long time coming. I don't mind my 8 year old hearing something from Pres. Obama, as long as he comes home and we talk about it. Maybe going to school might be a good idea. I haven't gotten a paper on this or anything from our school, when is it suppose to be?

Maybe its not agood ideal to bring up our president. I dont think he knows any thing about chickens.
