October 2016 Hatch-A-Long!!

I know most folks are long done hatching for the year but I just set 20 Silkie eggs from my own flock and 6 silkied Serama eggs from a breeder. I have more eggs already in that will hatch earlier in October too. I am hoping for more paint silkies and possibly a paint showgirl

I just set 2 dozen Cayuga duck eggs yesterday. I lost 4 right of the bat. So now there's 20.

Oh, goodness, what happened to the four? They couldn't be quitters after just one day. I have dropped duck eggs before... So sad.

Are they from your ducks?

I am adding 15 guinea fowl eggs to my incubator this afternoon. I plan to surprise my aunt with them. She LOVES guineas, and most of hers died last year. (plus I plan to swap her for a couple hens I left with her a few months ago...)

Cool, have you hatched guineas before? They are on my list to try. What a great surprise for a guinea lover!!

My Serama eggs are just on day three and I have resisted turning them so far. These are replacement eggs and the ones before had 3 eggs that developed and two already quit so I am trying to be extra gentle with the new set. I just picked up a silkied Serama pullet to go with my cockerel though so I feel less pressure about the eggs.

I found some more irresistible eggs on Craigslist yesterday and lavender Orpington eggs too... I just CAN'T. STOP. HATCHING.

I trying to hatch for the first time. I just put five in. Two easter eggers and three half americauna half who know. I've been turning them since the second day. Today's the fourth day. I did candle them, but some of the shells are hard to see through. One of the EE eggs definitely had veins. It's pretty exciting.

That is exciting! Those are dark eggs that are pretty hard to see into. After a while though you can tell which ones get even darker compared to the ones that don't develop and still kind of glow. But hopefully all of yours will be developing! Feel free to ask any questions and let us know how they are doing!
