Crumples, that was the first time attempting a block like that. Probably the last for a while, lol! The corners wouldn't match up after many times of ripping out seams and sewing again so I just gave up.

Even my points don't all meet. I do try though, doesn't always work.
For some reason, once you make the squares into triangles they loose some of their square shape.
The only way to fix that would be to make them larger and to cut them to size after making the triangle squares, then they would be perfect. Way too much work for me that way.

Greate job though!

I'm a little nervous, I signed up for a class on applique' at some quilting shop in another town. I got talked into it by my sister who was inspired by my talk of BYC quilt block swaps

Spread the word, right?

It's on Sat Oct 3rd 10:30 til 3:30. Wow, I hope I'm ready. We have to bring our own sewing machine, basic sewing kit, fabric and among other things, 1 yard of cording or yarn for couching ? What the heck does that mean?

Can anyone help me on some of these terms? Thanks.......

And what's tear-away stablilizer? I think I have an idea, but not sure.....

Luna - I might be able to help with some of the vocab for your class

The couching is when you add thread embellishment to the surface of the block with your sewing machine. So, say you are appliqueing a Santa face, you might use a decorative, fluffy white yarn for his beard and you'd attach it to the face - after the block is pieced (clear as mud??) I bet you can find some pix on Webshots, just search "quilt couching" or something like that. They make machines now to handle an extra thread so you can couch as you are sewing too - way too cool (and I'm sure, wayyyyy toooooo expensive, LOL)

Tear away stablizer is easy to find a JoAnns or anywhere. Ask the ladies at the counter and they'll point you in the right direction. It will help the design not to pucker as you sew it on. It seems like I remember it is a little sticky on one side & you use an iron to put it on. When you are sewing the applque, you sew through all the fabric and the stablizer too. Then when all done, you can tear off the stabalizer because the satin stitching perforated it and made it easy to remove.
