Congrats on your seven new chicks. At least you are looking at your hatch to learn...good for you. I had some CCL hatch out white- goes back to the origination of the breed when they crossed in the white leghorn...they are beautiful birds!
If you want to beef up your hens feeding schedule just let them have nice free range time, fruit & nutritious yummies. Oddly, I have a 100% hatch rate in my crew from my own eggs whether they are crossed or not. But, i credit my incubator also because it is dummy proof. My styrobator...I was nothing but a death chamber. Hatch rates from 0-50% on shipped eggs.
Hatching is addictive...Should come with a warning sign, I started hatching last November and I have over 200 in my flock now!![]()
I agree, I normally let my hens hatch but decided to build a bator and I am at my second hatch now, hatch rate was not great for the first batch only got 2 chicks out of 6 eggs. I have 10 silkies, 8 Australorps and 5 Plymouth barred rock x Potchefstroom Koekoeks in my flock. I have 11 Silkie eggs and 4 BA eggs in the incubator due to hatch this weekend, hoping for a better hatch rate.
