OCTOBER HATCH-A-LONG!!! 2015

Congrats on your seven new chicks. At least you are looking at your hatch to learn...good for you. I had some CCL hatch out white- goes back to the origination of the breed when they crossed in the white leghorn...they are beautiful birds!

If you want to beef up your hens feeding schedule just let them have nice free range time, fruit & nutritious yummies. Oddly, I have a 100% hatch rate in my crew from my own eggs whether they are crossed or not. But, i credit my incubator also because it is dummy proof. My styrobator...I was nothing but a death chamber. Hatch rates from 0-50% on shipped eggs.

Hatching is addictive...Should come with a warning sign, I started hatching last November and I have over 200 in my flock now!

I agree, I normally let my hens hatch but decided to build a bator and I am at my second hatch now, hatch rate was not great for the first batch only got 2 chicks out of 6 eggs. I have 10 silkies, 8 Australorps and 5 Plymouth barred rock x Potchefstroom Koekoeks in my flock. I have 11 Silkie eggs and 4 BA eggs in the incubator due to hatch this weekend, hoping for a better hatch rate.

Here is my 1st ever hatch. Got home from work at 8am and there it was. Day 19. Is it that comon?
Thank god i took out the autoturner or else this bird would of been shreaded.

Good call.

Hmm looks like you have the same kind of incubator I have. Not knowing any different I left it in the styrofoam so couldn't see in. Now I can't help wondering what effect the extra insulation had on my hatch. I'm jealous that you could see in.

Sorry the hatch didn't go well, @gjamesi.

Today is hatch day for my broodies, tomorrow for my incubator eggs. I can hear tiny chirps inside the eggs! I hope I get at least one more chick.

I have that 1 too and it's my first hatch it in I left the bottom piece of styrophome because at night the temp was dropping with our hot days and cold nights we are having I'm hoping at lock down because I'll increase the heat I won't need it there so I can watch the hatch, that's what I hated about my hova bator was I couldn't see anything

No no, I thought it went quite well for my first time, sad for those that didn't make it, but happy with what I did get.
Thank you though.

I am trying to not expect much with my first hatch as well.

Just went out to check on the broodies & they have two new chicks! One big Lavender & a smaller one that looks blue.
