OCTOBER HATCH-A-LONG!!! 2015

I found the egg shells for the lavender & the blue chicks, plus another egg shell that was zipped perfectly in half. I couldn't find the half with the writing that said what kind it is, and one of the broodies was getting mad and she pecked me, but it looks like there is a fourth chick in there somewhere too. Wow, and yesterday I was so worried we would only have 1 chick hatch!

I am so happy for the broodies because they went through so much to hatch out those eggs. They sat there getting bitten by mites for days before we realized what was wrong. And it was such a nightmare for us getting rid of the mites. But it is so worth it now. :)

10/34 of our quail hatched. And only 1/12 black coppers hatched. I was surprised because i really didnt think any were going to. We had 17 naked necks in there too but none of those developed. So we have 1 little lonely chick. She peeped the first night so I gave her a mirror and stuffy. Now she is better.

A good broody is an awesome thing to have!

Honora, that's awesome! I have two broody Silkie hens sharing just like yours are. Their babies are due to hatch next Friday! I'm so excited as this will be their first time. I was nervous about having two hens share the broody duties....they like to trade eggs every once in a while. But they have been sitting on the 7 eggs without fail. Your photo gives me hope!

First chick hatched in the incubator! I noticed the peeping from the eggs was louder, so I went over to look at the incubator and one of the eggs was zipped a centimeter! It seriously took her only 10 minutes to finish hatching. I noticed in the candling that that shell was thin, so I guess that's why it hatched so fast.
