OCTOBER HATCH-A-LONG!!! 2015

yip got to them in time, the saddest part is some of them were developing so well. Its always sad when they just die.
I agree. It is sad when they die...or are killed by the power company. I had some Cemani eggs in my incubator when the power company did a pole update in my area...needless to say...$200+ dollars later one very weak hatcher who passed the first hour or so. GRRR

I'm on day 20 of two eggs in our incubator. The last two attempts we tried have not been happy ones. They have gone all the way to pip and then die for some reason so sad. They all pip on the bottom side and I dont kow it.

How can I prevent this on these two eggs that are getting close to hatch

I've had similar problems. make sure the humidity is high!

So far since 11 pm last night we have had 4 hatch. All are from my flock. We will give it until 11 pm tomorrow night before we move any out of the bator. One of the shipped eggs has pipped. Only 9 of the 24 shipped eggs developed. The others minus 2 were clears. The one went weepy and the other I had crack when I was candling it.

Will post pictures once the hatch is over.

Bummer, When is lockdown?
Sunday, I'm hoping it just quit I've got my old incubator heating up so I can just transfer them to it. I didn't use a Turner in it I only went new because for me it was a large batch going in

Was this a new turner? Is the motor still humming while the trays don't move? Check the screws that hold the motor to the frame. I had both screws work loose and it quit turning. Once I got it tightened back up, works great. In the meantime, set the eggs in a paper carton and elevate the end. Rotate every 12 hours.

.

Lay the egg on its side. When the chick pips, then elevate the pip end

Hubby is on the big computer so I'll upload some photos later.
Today's hatch started last night and finished a few hours ago. I've moved babies to the brooder and another set of eggs is in the hatcher...two pheasant in that bunch.
The hatch includes a few Cochin, Columbian Wyandotte and one tiny Serama.

On the Serama, I purposefully left the egg in the incubator in a tiny egg cup next to the motor to the turner. It was a totally dry hatch...first chick to hatch in 10 incubations. The chicks would be alive going in to lockdown and then die. I suspected it was the difference in the temperatures in the incubator and the hatcher. Not moving the egg was an experiment that worked.
