In the Brooder
I am glad you had some more pips. May be a hot spot or just bantam eggs...they seem to come early. Hope you have some beautiful chicks soon!
Thanks! We had one hatch late last night. It had its umbilical cord around its foot and as it started to walk it began pulling red stuff out..we got it quickly, snipped the cord where there were no blood vessels, put antibiotic cream on it, and had it in the incubator until this morning. I tried to gently encourage the red stuff inside but had no luck. Now that its in the brooder box that stuff is drying up....i have read that these chicks dont make it but it is chirping like a champ, running around like an olympic sprinter, pooping, eating, and drinking so for now I am just watching it to see what happens. I just had another hatch about an hour ago that has a bunch of stuff behind it as well. It doesnt look like yolk but its not red like the other chicks was. This is my first time hatching any chicks that have come out alive so I dont know whats "normal" or not. My husband thinks that the hatch day shoukd actually be today because we out them in late (like 9 pm) three fridays ago. I guess he may be right because we have a couple more zipping right now. I will keep you guys updated!
