Great looking chicks, everyone! I am on day 18 and locking down!
I had to do a bit of jostling them because I wanted to sort my super blue egg layers from my Cream Legbars because they will all look like little chipmunks as babies and I will not be able to tell them apart.
I tried putting them in separate containers in the bator, only to realize they didn't all fit.
Then I took them all out,and tried fitting one set in the container in the bator. It still took up too much room. So now they're all back in the bator all mixed up x(
Hopefully I didn't fiddle with them too much. That's what I get for trying to do all of that before going to work. Shoulda just waited til I got home like I normally do.
I'll try to fashion a little cardboard divider like the one on here and stick it in there this evening.
ALSO I made a photo-type mama heating pad. I was afraid of the chicks getting stuck between the pad and the wire so I opted for a plastic bin, cut 2 holes for doors, a hole for the cord, and taped the heating pad to the inside of it so there is no real way for them to get between the pad and walls. It's REALLY ugly, but functional!
I tested it out on some older biddies (from my September hatch) and it worked like a charm over night! They loved it! I'll be constructing another for new hatches.
