Well, I tried candling the eggs again this evening. It's 13 days I've had 8 eggs in the incubator. I had definite movement in 6 eggs! I don't know if it's just a better time for candling, or better with a little light in an adjacent room, but was finally able to see something. In two I couldn't really see any movement. The EE egg is hard to see thru so I'm not really sure.

What are you using to candle your eggs? I am really struggling with trying to see. Last night I left some ambient light on in the background and it seemed to be a little better. I'm now at 13 days with 7 barred rock and one EE egg. I honestly can't see well enough to tell anything except that there is an air cell on all. The EE egg is small and I can barely see anything through the shell.

I use a LED light from a moped project I gave up on. The LED light is $100 but it was just laying around.

My incubator will be on LOCKDOWN tonight! This is my first hatch and i'm quite excited. I just upgraded my phone so I will be using my old phone (Iphone 6s) to make a time lapse video of the whole process. I will share once Its available.

I ended up with 9 chicks. Low hatch rate in general but for shipped eggs hatched at high elevation I'm happy. 2 Marans and 7 bantams! They are all adorable. I love the mixed colors of a the bantams. Beautiful chicks. I'm hoping for at least 1 friendly broody hen out of the lot.

The assorted Marans eggs arrived, 16 of them. 3 are blues and the rest are predominently black copper. They'll rest for 24 hrs. and then into the incubator with a few more Welsummer eggs. (If all hatch, I will be overrun with chicks as I have 24 with strong veining in the bator right now.)

Anybody ever get a shipped egg that you couldn't tell which end is the air cell? The shape has no differentiation whatsoever.

I had to really candle to figure it out and discovered the egg in question has a detached air cell. Sigh....

What elevation are you at?

I'm in Northern Utah. It's considered high desert, super dry, with elevation
about 4300'. Not as bad as CO but it definitely factors into hatching.
