October Hatch-A-Long 2017

You counted correctly the 1st time. You don't count the day you put them in (Day 0). Your 21st day will be Oct 28th.
I'm not really sure what happened with my countdown. I checked here and saw that I put them in the incubator on the 7th. That means the 21st day is October 27th. I'm not sure why I thought it was the 28th instead, and I'm not sure how to interpret what the incubator says is left since it counts...

That makes sense. I think I may have thrown myself off by not starting them in the morning like I've done before. It makes the mystery peeper all that more interesting, but concerning, too! Let's just keep it between us and not share it with my boyfriend, who had to put up with me being rather grouchy as we ran errands tonight instead of rushing home to do lockdown, lol.

Just saw what you said about your early hatchers. That's good. If these can put up with all the variation this incubator gave me, they have to be pretty hardy.

My pipped egg just hatched! I don't know what the clear jelly and white poo stuff is. It really peeped a lot and just burst out. whee!View attachment 1166546

Just so I know next time -- what is the clear jelly/white poo stuff in this photo? Is it normal? Chick is doing great!

My chicks are 2 weeks old tomorrow. They are gorgeous. The blue one and the tiny barred are my favorites. 3 of the cochins are feathering out black although they have slightly different colored down. Color may change as they grow out . 3 appear calico colored and look super fancy. The Marans are so sweet and gentle. What photo shoot would be complete without a photo bomb my gold sexlink?
Very cute chicks! You should enter one of those photos in the HAL Fall Photo Contest!

Both the blue eggs have hatched, 2 Wellies out (both males :(), and one black chick...so the crossed eggs appear to be Welsummer x Australorp. Still not at Day 21 yet and nearly half hatched. All eggs have pips! :)
That is awesome :celebrate

Peeping means internal pipping. You'll probably have a chick tomorrow! Day 19. I've had a couple hatch early. They do great. No worries.

You were right! Blue egg has a pip this morning!

Piggies at the trough...

3 definite Welsummer girls, possibly 2 more girls (markings are ambiguous, will know for sure at feathering) and 2 definite boy Welsummers, 2 unsexed Welsummer/Australorp and 2 unsexed Welsummer/EE in this batch.

Eggtopsy showed no internal pip and an unabsorbed yolk sac, so maybe a couple of days before today that Welstralorp egg quit.

The Cuckoo Bluebars in the next set are already starting to pip!
