October Hatch-a-long 2022🎃🐣🍁

Pics
Well went ahead and pulled like 7 clears...2 blood rings and 2 that just weren't developing ...no visual signs of veining here on day 8 they also had saddled aircells.
There were a couple still questionable but I left em in and will candle again this weekend once new incubator arrives (I pray).
The ONE buff egg yet again is one that had no veining but I've tried so hard now for a buff baby the past 4 hatches that I'm gonna leave it in over the weekend and see...but not much hope.
My Silkie eggs come today from Bobbi Porto (Champion Silkies and a Sweetheart of a lady!) And I am excited!!! So I will let them rest til new incubator is here this evening (supposed to be) then get those babies going!

Well, since my Splash Silkie roo finally (FINALLY) figured out how to do his job and fertilize some eggs, I'm in here with 8 eggs due to hatch 10.08, 11 due 10.20, two under a VERY protective broody as of this past Tuesday , and another 5 that are going in the incubator Sunday for a Halloween hatch...
Welcome!🥰 More Silkies!😊

How were they packed?

How many are left that are still developing?

Fingers crossed the Silkies do better.🤞

Edited for spelling.

I spoke to my daughter last night and we did a FaceTime to look at the eggs in the incubator. One of them has already pipped, this was late day 18. This was the one that I saw shadowing in earlier before I left. Earliest external PIP I have experienced.
Trying to get her to go check them but it’s 3 in the morning so she’s not responding, go figure!🤣
Teenagers!🤷‍♀️

I’ve got a question for you Silkie breeders. So my two chicks that hatched out of blue eggs were supposedly Ameraucana’s or Ameraucana/Legbar crosses. These two both have feathered legs and 5 toes. So I got in touch with the lady I got the eggs from and asked where those genetics are coming from. She said that her Silkie rooster had gotten into the breeding pen “for a little while” but her husband had reported that the Ameraucana roosters in the breeding pen were keeping the Silkie away from the hens, so they didn’t think anything of it. Well, apparently he managed to mount a few hens because the legs don’t lie.

Anyway, my question is: Will these chicks develop the furry feathers of a Silkie or will they be smooth?

They will have smooth feathers though be softer than regular feathered chickens and females will likely lay light green/blue eggs.
Here is my 8 week old 3/4 Silkie, 1/4 Ameraucana mix.😊

They were packed very unusual....this is my 6th set of shipped eggs and this is the only one that did not have the eggs in a carton. Rather each egg was individually wrapped in bubble wrap then placed side by side and all surrounded by shredded paper.
But the other on this thread wirh cochins hatched pretty well...so it may be my incubator for the all except the clears.
I just received the shipment from Bobbi Porto...20 eggs all Silkie buffs! I bet I get some this time gosh darnit!!! Lolol
The USPS didnt hold them at PO but so fae they look ok...gonna let em rest now.

I can't believe u got a pip that early!
And teenagers...if ya wanted em to go to bed they would never hun! Lolol

Just curious if the packing had anything to do with it.🤔

I finally got ahold of my daughter around 6:45. She has the day off school today. No more chicks have pipped yet and the early bird has not done much yet except make the hole a bit bigger. 😊
She will be keeping an eye on them.
I will be home tomorrow night, so even if a few hatch today, they will be fine in the incubator until I get there.
