October Hatch-a-long 2022🎃🐣🍁

Pulled three early quitters. DAY 9. This is when I usually see them. Interestingly all three were from the same bird. Two out of three were eggs that were a bit smaller than the others, not sure if this has anything to do with it. This only leaves me three of my black pullet’s eggs left in this batch. I do have a few more of hers in the next set.😊

Probably worth making a note on. If a lot of hers quit again next time you may need to rethink breeding her. :(

Yes, I thought about this too. 🤔
She’s a real sweet bird, she’s not perfect though. Large for a Silkie but nice body type and feathering.
Guess I’ll have to wait and see.

It's a hard thing to have to think about.
Yes, especially as she’s my only black female at the moment. Hoping to use her to get better black markings in the Paints.
Super hard to find quality Silkies here. I’ve had to import all my breeding stock from
mainland breeders, all hatched from eggs which being shipped have also had difficulty achieving. Finally have some good foundation stock to work with and I have been getting some really nice chicks.🙂

@LadiesAndJane the rooster in your PFP us so handsome!!
Thanks! 🥰
That’s my Paint, Eko. Hatched him from an egg from Rainier Foothills Farm. He was the only one that hatched out of close to 40 eggs! No fault from the breeder, the eggs were impeccably packed. Assume the post office just did a number on them.🙂

Wow, that's a bad hatch! I admire him every time I see your profile picture!

Thanks! Had to keep him as the only hatchling from the breeder. 😊
He is a bit on the leggy side for a Silkie, but has great form and feathering. Nice tight walnut comb. Has been throwing some beautiful chicks. He is also a very good boy.🥰
