October Hatch-A-Long

Gotcha

Yes, I got mine used, and no, there are no plugs. Humidity was down to 35%, so I put maybe a quarter cup in of water in.. now it's up to 80%. Don't know what to do.

35% for day 1-18 is perfectly acceptable for me.. Again, I don't measure Humidity IN the incubator, I have a air cell chart printed out and I use that to make sure the eggs are within an acceptable level of development. I sure wish I could find me another incubator...

Ebay! $50, but I did have to buy a new motor for the egg turner ($9.95).

The question is ... if you need to increase the humidity by 10%, how much water do you put in the bottom of the Hovabator?

I didn't, on day 18 I cut a sponge in three small strips And would dip those in warm water.. once the chicks started hatching they increased the humidity for the others, I would rewet those sponges in-between hatches...Again, I didn't measure the humidity within the incubator, I did it because it worked so well the first time I tried it so I keep doing it..

If I see my room humidity is lower during lockdown then I like (under 40%) I plug in my humidifier for an hour or so... I only did that twice in three days.

Does everyone here keep all the chickens you hatch? If not, what do you do with the chicks? I have two hens and room for one or two more, if I end up with more hatching I'm just curious. Back to the nursery, advertise, word of mouth?

You can also advertise on craigslist and Facebook farm animal groups. Whatever else I don't need I can take to a local auction.

We are new to this in every aspect. I've done a ton of reading and a neighbor gave us 9 of her chicken eggs. Day 21 will be oct 3rd so hope I'm doing this right. I have them in an incubator with water in the channels and temp is btwn 99.5 and 101. My daughter is super excited as am I. I'd love to see them hatch and be able to share it with the girls in our Girl Scout troop.
