October Hatch-A-Long

I read somewhere on here that as the chicks get ready to hatch that the humidity rises. I was warned over and over again to be careful about how high humidity was at lockdown because it raises as the chicks get close. I believe it was because of the albumin being absorbed. I'll look for the link and post it.

Thats what I was thinking, too. I am doing dry hatch so it's not that high. IT did come back down to 28% though. So who knows what it was. I wont be adding humidity until end of day 18 or first pip. whichever comes first.

I just put my own black Australorp eggs and bought BBS Australorp eggs. The BBS Australorps were bought from Taylor farms when they sold off their breeding stock and have been bred with black Australorps. I have one blue Australorp already from this line. She is gorgeous:). Due October 20.

Cool! Looking forward to seeing them! I'm also hatching BBS australorp eggs.

May I join? I'm doing an experiment. I'm trying to hatch a chick under an incandescent light. I have a little clear box with an egg, a hydro/thermometer, and a clear bag with holes poked in it covering it. Right now it's 62% humidity and 99 degrees F. There's a small wet paper towel in there as well. EE x Partridge Rock. I'll set 2 more today!

for you!

Well I now know for sure that Both chicks are alive. I wasn't too sure about the darker silkie egg. But looks like either both have internally piped or are gettign ready to. I see movement in air cell, shadow but doesn't look like a beak yet. was adding water and figured i'd check he air cell one last time since today is day 18 wouldn't do any harm. I am now leaving the chicks alone until day 24 if they don't hatch.
