I want ducks soooo bad!

One of them sure has a good set of lungs!! hahah has been peeping for the last 2 hours non stop! This is exciting, I don't want to go to bed! My face is glued to the incubator glass- although there isn't much to see at the moment lol

That's a silkie for ya. My silkies have always been the loudest as chicks!

And now the other piped silkie joined in. Its like they are teasing me! LOL I Can hear them but can't see them. My cat is going nuts trying to figure out where its somign from lol

I can see egg #1's beak...The beak looks more blue than black with a yellowish Tip. My silkie that hatched last time had an entirly black beak...If you are familiar with silkies is this normal? I won't be able totell completely until s/he hatches which prob wont e for another 12+hrs

Is anyone else going to record their chick weights as they grow? I did my last batch of Wyandottes and have started recording the Light Sussex that hatched last week as well. Keeping track of weights helps pick up on problems early as they lose weight before they start showing any signs of problems and it also helps to know what to expect in future hatches.

We lost one :/ Died shortly after internally piping. There is another that I believe is no longer alive but the 2 that externally piped are alive and chirping away.

How can you tell its dead not just resting ready for stage 2 and the external pip? and how can you tell they are internally pipping? I keep seeing people say that but as you arent supposed to touch the eggs (or be lifiting incubator lids) at this stage how is everyone working that out?

I Lift the lids to add water. Doesn't do any harm. My humidity never goes down more than a few % you can tell a chick is internally piped by chirping or you can candle without moving the egg and see. I can do this as I incubate in egg carton so they are in a good position to candle quickly without moving the egg. I never havethe lid lifted more than a minute. Easier to do this with fewer eggs. I only had 4 eggs make it into lockdown.

I also noticed the chick was no longer moving, earlier I could see it breathing in the shell. My humidity went up a little higher than I like it to be earlier and I think I may have drowned the two that weren't externally piped but only time will tell.

Egg #1 hatched! We have a baby!! I am no expert but I am thinking white silkie. Won't be able to tell until s/he dries but looks to be yellow feathers.
