Incubator set! 8 Ayam Cemani, 8 Dominiques, 4 Dark Egg Projects (Production Red type of birds selectively bred for dark eggs, long time project of mine) 18 Naked Neck Project birds, 5 Serama. On the side 8 Silver Leghorns, I keep side eggs that I turn myself to replace eggs in the turner as they die.
I am really starting to like white egg breeds every time I candle
So when it's day 18, I take the eggs out of the turner and put them on their side?
I think I'll lay them down on day 16 because I really want the twins to hatchYes, that is what most do, I like laying them on their sides for hatching. Day 18 for chicken eggs is when most people do it. I've positioned my eggs for hatch as early as day 16 (I've heard after day 14 is when turning is no longer important) since I find day 16-17 my eggs get really wiggly and I like giving them extra time to get in position without being turned. I don't ever officially go into lockdown (with the humidity up) until day 18 though.
There can be reasons where hatching upright may be a good option but for local/your own eggs that are looking good at lockdown I personally think laying on their sides is probably the best approach.![]()
I aint no negative nancy, but I am however, a realist, and just know that both of the chicks in that shell will PROBABLY, not for sure, but probably not make it, sometimes even both of them wont make it, but hey, there is a first/second/3rd/4th time for everything am i right?I think I'll lay them down on day 16 because I really want the twins to hatch
