@Compost King none of the coloring makes sense to me :lau everyone told me I'd have straight black, but none are. They have white or brown or they are white with black spots :idunno
thats why we breed them, to find out what happens. Sometimes the experts are wrong and the only way to find out is the old fashioned way

The experts were so wrong! All my RSL/BJG have brown and black feathers. The Delaware's are black and white (I figured they'd be this way) and some RSL/JG are solid white with black markings

Hmmm have you ever tried looking on craigslist or something like that for someone that's local to you?
We were fortunate with craigslist for the (local)silkie mixes, sure they weren't show quality as advertised, but 17/18 hatched. Sure one egg was infertile.

Even more fortunate is we only have 4 roosters that is a big plus! I was forced to euthanize one chicken though due to severe wry neck to the point the animal was soiling itself around week 3 so we only have 16 now. Still it was a huge success.

We still have our 16 fluffbutts running around the yard. Regardless, this was from my April hatch. I have a 0% hatch rate from USPS provided eggs but incredible success from privately conveyed ones. Of course one of those failures was my fault ordering eggs in summer where I live and trusting USPS to deliver them. The second was them breaking eggs in transit and destroying the bloom, I think. I'm still new to this so can only guess, but had eggs blasting in the incubator at day 14.
