October Hatching ... How many are in? I'm due to hatch on 10/17

My 'hatch' is a total unknown. First and no idea if any are even fertile. Due sometime in the next two weeks, 9 eggs. I hope at least one hatches...lol.

I've got 10 new chicks, 8 of which are safely in the brooder: four each of FBCM and Salmon Favorelles. One SF was very wobbly and weak, although it did stagger over to get drinks and peck at the chick starter. But the others seemed to pick on it, and soon its very pink skin showed through dampened feathers again, so I put it back into the incubator to "finish off" by warming up and resting, hopefully to get stronger before I put it back in the brooder with the others.

And one FBCM was shrink-wrapped (I now know exactly what that term means

) so I let eventually helped it. I managed to pull all the shell off of it, then put a hot, wet paper towel around the little lumpy, egg-shaped, peeping "package." Hours later, I carefully pulled all but one tiny bit of membrane off the chick. It's peeping A LOT but is learning how to kick and roll over as it dries off in the incubator.

Whew!

We didn't have luck with ours. 1 egg made it to what looked to be full term, but the york was never absorbed, and it never hatched. another egg just started to form, and stopped. The other was non-fertile... and the 4th egg had a formed chick but s/he was deformed. Looked way off.

Next year we'll be getting a new bator, so hopefully we'll have more luck. This was a "just for fun" run.... however we found our missing hen with 10 chicks in tow...so it all works out

Congratulations on all the baby chicks everyone. I have been busy making brooders. I made the first one too big so I am turning it into an outdoor brooder and the 2nd and smaller one is set up and ready for the babies which go into lockdown on the 18th. Out of 24 eggs I had 4 not fertile and 2 quitters, so far as I can tell 18 still doing well. It is getting hard to see in the eggs the babies are getting so big. Sending happy, healthy hatching vibes to everyone still waiting.

well as of right now i have 3 little olive egger chickies one just hatched and is still drying off in the incubator the others hatched last night and this morning and are now in the brooder, with my little serama who was my only hatchling from my last hatch( 2 1/2 weeks ago) they all are about the same size so so far so good. will have the next round of egg going into the hatcher next week and there are 17 of those, from the candling done last night. some wheaten marans, a duck egg, and some marans mixes. my hubby got me an early b-day present a new incubator

good luck everyone on their hatches

I've had them hatch the same day they went into lock down. I tend to run my temps around 100.2 and they almost always hatch early. I do that to make sure the chick doesn't get to big to zip it's way out. I also keep my humidity at around 50% during lock down and hatching. But my numbers have been so unstable due to the weather changing they are hatching late and i'm getting spraddle legs and curled toes. I've had to cull several. I did have one that just had too much spunk and I waited to see how it did. It's in a brooder with 34 other quail chicks and it's not spraddled legged anymore but it does have a curled toe issue. If it makes it to get bigger I'll can put boots on it and fix it. The others had no will to live and just rolled around or just laid there. I still have more hatch dates this month. My next ones are the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th. Then a few days and there are more. I'm not putting any quail eggs in the bator right now. I just put them all in a bowl in the fridge. I'm gonna try my hand at pickling them. Sounds gross to me but I hear they are good so why not.

Today is to be hatch day, no pips. Then to top it off the power went out for 1 hour

The temp in the brinsea dropped to 95 and the temp in the hovabator dropped to 90 degrees. I am starting to think this hatch may be a bust.

Just finished my hatch got 22 out of 23 eggs all doing well eating drinking poop machines
