One of my hens hatched out a late clutch early this week. There are six chicks 2 white, 1 pied, 2 india blue split white/dp, and 1 chick that seems noticeably darker than the other two india blues. I may be wrong and the other two chicks might be lighter than normal but I don't think I've seen a chick quite this dark. The pen they came out of is a mixed pen so theres no knowing who mom and dad are. The pen has blues, whites, pieds, and black shoulder but no real color variations. Anyone have any idea what I might be looking at? Is it some unknown recessive color gene or just some normal slight variation. The chick on the left is the darker one with a normal/lighter chick for comparison. This photo shows its back but its slightly darker all over, if it behaves today I'll try to get some better pictures.

All color mutations are from the India Blue species. Spalding comes from India Blue/Java green. So much cross breeding in the India Blue has caused a decrease in the purity of the species. So it's possible that in one clutch with both parents being India Blue, you could get several different dominant/recessive genes in color variations.
