Odd mix ducks, by accident

I love the fact that the mom is so much smaller than the babies. :)
That is exactly what I was thinking! What a sweet family they make

I just came across this thread and OMG i love them!!! It is pretty funny how the mom is so tiny! I have a bibed pair of calls and i cant wait for them to start mateing! And with your silver runner is it a male or female? I have 2 silvers and both are female!

They did outgrow her pretty fast, the Dad is easily twice the size of the babies so I'm thinking they'll land somewhere in the middle. It's funny to see that, even though her kids are so much bigger than she is, she's still their Mom and they do what ever she tells them to do.

Thats loveable! With my female bibed call duck she is really small compared to average call females. Even my male is super small. I got the runts of the ladys litter that she had. Im hoping none of my drake runners try to get her because shes just so small!!!
Female is closer to the door.

Oh they are SO adorable! I never thought that my Runner drake would go for the Calls because he has his own hens and they never socialized with the Calls. I was wrong, obviously. I'm only glad he didn't drown any of them trying to mate. He has been moved out of the back yard for the safety of the little Call girls.

Lol thats still pretty comical. My runners want nothing to do of my calls... they actually chase them and when i first got them one of the younger female runners was parading around with one!! So the calls get the yard right behind the house and the runners , pekins and muscovie get the cage. They still chase them when their around the calls i have no idea why and mainly the poor female. They skinned through the fence into the cage and boy did that little female call yell while the male just sat there... Thats another thing i had to take care of! But I do have to say your little guys are cute!!!

Yeah, Runners can be dominant little stinkers. I have 2 drakes that I happened to raise with a goose and they act like ganders, (they even try to mate with my older Embden hen. photo.), their names are Caper and Cashew but now I just call them 'Guido and Guido', lol. Runners and other larger ducks can be very hard on Calls because though they are bossy, they are so small that they're vulnerable. Even my Runner drake that mated with one of my Calls was picking on the other Call hens so I had 2 reasons to move him and his hens with the rest of the Runners. Of course the 2 Runner flocks are not getting along (the fault of the drakes, wish I could find a home for 2 of them where they wouldn't be dinner) so I'm still juggling ducks. It sounds like you are having to do the same thing, it's hard isn't it?. For such sweet little creatures they can sure be a royal pain.

All 3 Buff/White drakes trying to mate with my goose Angelica, since her gander was killed by a coyote she's a duck-lover so it makes her very happy. The Lavender drake that mated with the Call isn't interested in geese, he's a purist evidently as opposed to these guys who don't care WHAT they mate with...lmao

LOL!!! thats a great pic!! hahaha makes me giggle. My female runner thats outside (other is in the house with bumble foot) when i let her and the 2 drake out they run to the pond... well with that being sad we have 3 mallards that i raised 1 flew off and found a lady while 2 hang around that i named the bachelors. well the mallards try to get her then the 2 runners try to get her... so it was my female, then a mallard, runner, mallard then the runner!!! it was a huge ball!! thought that she was going to be drowned!! so i had to toss rocks at them to stop!!! she got out of the water and hid behind a rock. poor girl. never got a pic tho.

I know you probably know this but drakes can actually drown a duck when more than one try to mate her at the same time, so be watchful. Sounds like you need more ducks. {see duck math}

Well i do have more females 8 others to be exact they just have to mature. the drake was out trying to mate one about 20 mins ago and it wanted nothing to do of it since they where born in march. so ill come out with 3 males to 10 females that are my runners. Im even getting the pekins a female this week from mcmurrays and 2 fawn and white (male and female) So i think ill have mroe then enough females for them to love. xD
