OEGB Question

6 1/2 weeks! They're gorgeous little chicks, the coloring on the last is my favorite! Don't mind the Blue Ameraucana, it's just nosy. Too cute not to share though.

Wow they are cute!
Do I see some flat rose combs? I want to look closer on a bigger screen. But I would bet you have all pullets! :)

Thank you! I'm really glad you said something about the rose comb! The other three have single combs. The other I thought was a pea comb at first, but I was comparing it to my Dominique pullet and one of the Ameraucana chicks this weekend and it definitely looks like a rose comb to me too. That chick also has green legs. When I asked her about the blue eggs she told me the would hatch as a mix of OEGB and Bantam Ameraucana, but who really knows what they actually are? I can say for sure they're bantam sized, lol. 5 of them hatched, 1 was from a blue tinted egg, but 1 chick didn't make it. I'm honestly not sure which one didn't make it now. The chick was tiny, so I'm guessing it was the one that hatched from the smallest egg which was kind of cream colored.

Did the blue Am in the pics hatch with them? That would have been your blue egg, I suspect. Or if not, then the little black and white one probably is an OEGB/Am mix, but like you, I would suspect pea comb. I don't know much about comb genetics, but I do seem to remember pea being dominant. (I think*) Rose could come from sebright in the background maybe, just thinking of similar size/shape birds. Or the rosecomb breed? Or maybe its pea and just not obvious yet, being so little. Hopefully time will tell.

(p.s. I had golden sebrights that were gorgeous, but I hated those birds. Mean little biotches)

I had some true Ameraucana eggs that hatched at the same time. They are all large fowl though so I know it isn't any of them. The blue one is just super nosy, but so cute!
I tried messaging the person I bought the eggs from, but they have gone MIA...:thThese have a very nice temperament so far, a little flighty but I don't mind that. Especially when I compare them to the personalities of the awful Leghorn mixes. Never again. The two pullets aren't so bad, but the eight cockerels make me regret the day they hatched. They are ornery little heathens, one especially. That little joker may not get big enough to make it to the freezer.

OEGBs are one of my definite favorites.

I hatched 9 OEGBs about 6 weeks ago. Turns out 6 cockerels and only 3 pullets :th

Let them out with the ducks for a bit yesterday, if you can see them in the leaves and mess. :D
