Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

“Only like a week or so, but it was horrible. They just kept me in a cage the whole time and tried to make me fight someone who basically just almost murdered me,” Cas rambled, “I didn’t even know scavengers did that kind of thing- kidnap dragons? Why do they even do that?”
"I didn't either! I was raised by a family of RainWings so I was pretty sheltered as a dragonet." She frowned. "I didn't know either. How could something so small and fragile be so powerful?" She paused, thinking. "I was there for years. I don't even know how long exactly. You lose track of the time, fighting dragon after dragon. " She shuddered. "It was horrible. That's not even a good enough word for it. " She lifted her wing and pointed to a long, jagged burn scar down her left flank. "I got that one fighting a NightWing. After that fight I fully realized the life or death situation I was in, and..." Hibiscus grimaced. "I hate to say it but I got really good. At fighting. Killing." She glanced uncertainly at Cas, hoping he wasn't put off by her rant.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Cas said with a sheepish note to his voice, not having realized that Calla might’ve had it worse than him. In fact, he might’ve been lucky to only have spent a few weeks rather than years. He shuffled his talons in the sandy dirt. “They- shot something at me when they first saw me.. it made me fall asleep. Is that some kind of animus magic? Or scavenger magic? Or what?”

"It's all right," Hibiscus said with a smile, hoping to lighten the mood. "I'm out now. We're all out." She frowned, thinking. "Shot something... I might know what you're talking about. What did it look like? Was it very loud?" She leaned forward, her snout creased in confusion.

“I don’t know, it was like a silver thing with a red feather on it. It was kind of like one of those RainWing blow-gun things or whatever. I didn’t hear it though,” Cas squinted, trying to remember.

"Oh!" she said, realizing. "I think I remember those. They're some sort of modified blow-dart. The scavengers make horrible drugs." A horrible memory shot through her, an image of a silver stick being injected into her underbelly. "They tested things on me. Medicine, you could call it. To make me fight better."
Hibiscus shook her head quickly to clear the memory. "Well, I don't know about you, Cas, but I'm starving!" she said, changing the subject with an easy smile.

At first Sol hid his face, inwardly cursing the steam as tears bubbled down his neck. He couldn't remember the last time he'd cried.
Had he ever cried?
Sol flinched as Eclipse gently placed a cold talon on his overheated scales. He had worked himself up. Even he could feel the excited heat radiating off his wings. But Eclipse didn't seem to mind. Sol leaned against her, his expression hardening as he stared out at the desert, heat swirling through the suffocating air.
Eclipse had to force herself not to tense as Sol leaned into her, his scales pressing against hers. It wasn't just the stifling heat that made them seem to burn.
But she stayed where she was, trying to ignore the odd feeling of having a dragon touching her this way or being so close period, at least, a dragon she wasn't used to. The heat that was seeping through her scales was almost pleasant, even though the waves of warmth swirling off the Solarwing were hard to breathe in. Again, she was baffled. Sol didn't treat her the same way other Solarwings did. Sure, Sunspot was starting to come around a little and Helios seemed to have an even view of basically every tribe, but Sol was... different somehow. Eclipse felt like she knew exactly why, but she couldn't quite put a claw on it. It bounced around the edges of her mind like a playful dragonet, teasing her and flitting out of her mental reach whenever she tried to pin it down.
She brought her focus back to the present, noticing Sol's breathing starting to calm a little and his expression hardened. They were finally alone.
"Sol," she started hesitantly, keeping her gaze locked on the sprawling desert beneath them. Having him so close was nerve-racking enough, the thought of looking at him that instant was overwhelmingly terrifying. Again, she knew why, but at the same time, couldn't find the exact reason.
"Why did you fight for me like that? To get me out? You didn't know me, and our tribes... we're complete opposites. Why did you risk so much... just for me of all dragons?"

“Oh, that’s awful..” Cas said carefully; he offered a lopsided grin at her remark. “Yeah, let’s find something to eat though!” He chuckled uneasily, “how’s a person get food around here? Are we supposed to go hunt for it?” Cassius, like a SkyWing is, being quite taller than the rest of the dragons spread about them now, glanced around to see if anyone was offering meals.
“Oh look over there,” he pointed towards the transport vehicle where many of the dragons had gathered, “they’ve got a box or something out. They’ve probably got food over there. I’ve seen them taking food out of boxes, isn’t that right?” He took a couple steps closer, trying to see better over the heads of crowding dragons.

Oh shoot, Hibiscus thought as she slowly followed Cas. I've scared him off with my ranting. Ugh, when will I learn to shut up?
She had some readjusting to normal society to do before she tried to make friends. She gave Cas some space and picked a few bananas from a box of food. The smell of meat nearby made her stomach growl, but years of being a vegetarian with her RainWing caused her to instinctively reach for the fruit.
She took her food and laid down outside the group of dragons to eat, stretching her wings as she did so.

“Dont LeafWings eat meat?” Cas asked, sitting down near Hibiscus with the hide of some sort of animal and taking a bite. “Oh yeeaaah, the RainWing thing. How’s that on for ya? You just eat fruit now?”
