Austin cringed at the crash, but stayed alert, ready for one of the guards to come around. Shouting sounded outside the alleyway.Whitestar returned Austin's nod, remembering immediately after that the human couldn't see him. The Icewing glanced around the small space, trying to find something that would make a reasonable distraction. The alley was lined with a few large, dark green containers, horrid stench wafting from their tops and stinging the inside of Whitestar's nose.
He slid his claws beneath one of the nearby bins and gave a massive jerk. The box was heavier than he expected, but flipped backward all the same, the hinged lids banging against the wall and the metal sides clattered deafeningly against the ground.
The sound echoed through the narrow alleyway, and Whitestar slid up against the wall, hiding even though it wasn't entirely necessary. He let out a slow breath, trying to calm his racing heart. He had rarely ever experienced this sort of danger or adventure in his life, and the thought of breaking into the Scorpion Den of all places had never crossed his mind. He prayed silently that he wouldn't mess up the mission. Who knew what sort of horrid future would result from that.
@Yukiko
"What in the name of a dragon's hide was that!" One of the guards shouted.
A different guard, one who sounded older than the other, criticized him. "It was probably just a trash bin falling over. Stop being so antsy, will ya."
"Ya...ya." the other guard stuttered. "Just a trash can."
Dang, whiney one eh? There was more silence and Austin could feel the sweat dripping down his neck in anticipation. Finally the younger one spoke again. "But, but, Seymor! What if it's something else?"
"Ugh! If you want to go check it out, then go check it out!" the older one grumbled.
"You're not coming with me?" the other one squeaked.
"Why, bloody would I! It's a trash can! They fall over all the time. the garbage crew will get them in the morning, but if you want to pick them up now, go right ahead."
"But, what if the commander hears that we didn't do our job and secure the area."
There was a long and loud sigh, and then footsteps coming towards the alleyway.
I didn't think that both of them would come.
"See, Johnny, it's just a trash can," the older one said. Austin was hoping that Whitestar was in position to take out the other guard and silently. Austin would take the older one.
Austin peeked around the corner and watched them stand the trash can back up. Hoping Whitestar was paying attention, he jumped on the older one, immediately shoving his hand over the guard's mouth and grappling him.
Muffled yelling came from under his hold and he felt the older man grab his hands and try to pry them off. Gripping the man with all his strength, he tried to push forward at the trash can, but the man pushed back harder. They were shoved back against the alleyway wall, Austin's head slapping the hard brick. The world spun and was blurry as he opened his eyes. He felt his grip begin to slip from the man's mouth and sound escaped his lips.
The guard spun around, "What are you-" Austin shoved off the wall, shoulder in the man's chest. He pushed hard until he was stopped by the trash can and the wall.
Try making a sound now, punk.
