# of post w/out replies. Concerned about emergency/hatching posts.

Everyone can help us build out the FAQ section on the forum and also the How To pages of the site <BIG HINT>

I swear, if everyone took a page of a topic and created a BYC Page that we could insert into the FAQ section we'd have a perfect searchable reference for nearly everything!

OK, this brings me to another question. Just how many pages can you have on your BYC my page ?

Anyhow, a suggestion...

You can break up the Emergency/hatching and such into subgroups.

All the subgroups would have titles and the EMERGENCY one would have a warning that this is only used for dire needs and this will be answered promptly. All none real emergencies will be moved to another subgroup. Ask them to be very decriptive and while they are waiting for an answer to do a search in the site under the emergency index. This way no one will feel like they have been cast out without a reply. I too really do not think that hatching a baby chick is a dire emergency. Heck, it is done all the time in natures corner.

What do you think moderators ?

No limit on pages so far. Here is a member with a few:

We use to have emergencies and injuries/diseases separated but found that anybody with a sick or injured felt it was an emergency, so things flowed back and forth between the sections and it was a nightmare for the moderators to move stuff all the time.

Yes, there are some things that aren't emergencies and belong in other sections, like "HELP MY HUMIDITY IS LOW" should be in incubating eggs and not in the injuries / diseases section. If members see examples like this please hit the report link and say, "Please move to the xxxx section".

OK, I see what the deal is. Thanks for re discussing this.

One last question. When does the unreplied posts go into the catagory of unreplied to and leave the emergency section. Am I just dreaming that this happens or does is indeed happen ?

Thanks again.

The "show unanswered posts" link just shows posts from ANY category that haven't been replied to yet.

Posts show up in in the "unanswered" to category as soon as they are posted, as far as I can tell. I'm assuming a script searches for any thread that has 0 replies when you click on that link.

Nifty can tell you more about that, though.

Yup, spot on. Here is the link:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/search.php?action=show_unanswered

You can see it is just a search of the entire forum for any thread with no replies.

We may try to create some kind of version of this that just diplays the unanswered posts in the "emergencies" section. This is on the "features requested" list.

Agreed! I try to answer them when I can, but a simple search will usually show tons of answers to those questions.

yeah, I did a simple search first.. I am no computor whiz so I am sort of handicapped in that department..

my thread will not come up on unanswered posts because It has 1 reply....mine....

Did you click search in the top blue bar? If not you can do that, and then type in a few key words for the problem you are having, and a bunch of thread should come up. I know that most member on here really try to answer as many threads as possible. I always thought most threads in the incubating/hatching section got answered. I guess we will all have to try harder..
