off-leash dogs - ways to manage the neighbors?

Haaay, you didn't like my lattice covering the fence idea?

anyway, it was a valid piece of advice, even if it's not something the OP would consider.

And what's wrong with the get-a-dog idea?

However, your idea about the clipping is a GOOD one. I can't stand when the grass gets cut here because I want to feed it to my cows, but my family gets mad at the meadow muffins left behind. So I was gonna actually do that for the cows myself

Of course I don't have a problem with the 'get a dog idea' as I

have some of my own! I quote "We aren't here to bash each other or call each other cowards or debate the validity of SSS". You did none of these, not even the "debate the validity" part.

Uh, I don't believe lattice on the fencing was addressed by me.

Don't be a goober.

I think we all need to take care of our own. People are ignorant and usually think its not a big deal if their dog kills someone's chickens. I have read countless posts on here just about this thing, and I am of the opinion that if we want to have this stuff we are just going to have to be the ones to protect them with fencing, gates, mesh, whatever it takes. I know where we are, most dogs run loose, including mine, but they honestly stay in the yard or across the road where there isn't anything to get into, and I can't get mad if something would get into mine and I didnt' do my best to keep them safe . . .you all know what I mean. It all boils down to people not giving a hoot about other people's stuff. The second my dogs would do something threatening, they are tied. Period.

By the way, the baby that was snatched out of his crib by the husky mix . . whatever happened with that?

Really, you let your dogs roam free? You dont care if they go into other peoples yards? Then dont cry when your dog dosent come home...I dont have to find a dogs owner that LETS his dogs roam free...because they must not care too much about the dogs to let them roam free. I wouldnt waste my time/energy finding that idiot owner. IMO
Now..if the dogs get out on accident and its not a regular thing..and hte owners actually CARE where the dogs are...then i'd tell the owners..because the dogs got out on accid
ent. Thats differant IMO

Of course I do, as does everyone in this part of the world. There are only 2 dogs that I know of within miles and miles of here that are contained at all times. I live far out in the country. This is normal way of life and no one would ever even think to call you irresponsible to let your dogs free roam, not in the slightest. In fact, containin up dogs out here is frowned upon unless it is an uruly dog or a trouble maker.

We all care about our dogs. My dogs pass by neighbors yards and they even feed them treats and play with our dogs. They love them! And the neighbors dogs pass by our house. As long as they are decent dogs then it is just fine.

If something happens to my dog...nope, I won't cry over it. If they do damage then I will take responsibility in any manner in which the other party feels best...and vice versa. Why have hundreds of acres of land and woods around here and pen up the animals if they are good dogs? That makes no sense to me. Only the troublemakers get contained. All of our neighbors let their dogs roam and everyone is just fine and happy with it. If you live in a part of the world where this is not a good idea or if you have a dog that is unruly, then by all means contain your dog. Everyone is different and every place is different, you have to make the best decision for your own area. So, not everyone who lets their dog roam free is an idiot

Maybe idiots where you live but if you came here then the tables would be turned. And let me say how happy I am that I live in the place I live in....where freedom is endless!

Thats sad to me...I'd cry if something happend to my dogs.

And no, sorry. If i moved there the tables would never be turned..I care too much about what happens to my dogs and respect other peoples property too much to allow that to happen. But to each their own...

Well, I might be sad if something happend to Sophie but let me say I am not a dog lover. The ones we have are here by grace and they get to live the absolute best life a dog could ever imagine.

That is what is so great about living in the country - Just because we do things this way doesn't mean anyone doesn't respect anyone...people perceive things differently than they most of the time are. Very hardworking, good, great moraled, respectful folks that live around here

we will just have to agree to disagree on this..

Have you considered a "hot" wire along the outside of your fence? I just don't think it would help if the dog clears the fence with one jump, but would help with the climbers! Good luck!

OP -

I don't think there is anything more you could do to get everyone in your area to contain their dogs other than build a taller fence.

What you need to do is protect your birds on your own property from preditors. Build a tractor so your birds can be protected yet be able to eat fresh grass and bugs daily.

For my three banties, I have them in the front yard in a dog house turned coop n tractor.

For my eight big girls that just started laying, I dig up clumps of sod and clover to put in their run twice a day until I get a cattle panel tractor 5' W x 12' L x 6' H built so I can safely range them on my 4 acres as I have 3 dogs that would chase and kill, coyotes, and hawks.

Good luck to you.
