I have been getting quite upset with my Blue Ameraucana cockerel lately. He is after everything! He bloodied up a couple of White Giants I had that I was selling just before they were to leave. That was strike one. Then he has beaten up my very gentle Black Giant roo. I am constantly after him to leave the girls alone because he is relentless. After watching him this morning, I was determined that he has to go. Well, I found a dead Welsummer hen out in the yard when I went to lock them up. Nothing appeared wrong with her, but she was dead. She was fine about 5:00 when I looked in on them. I am so angry over losing her that I couldn't see straight when I came if from locking up. All I can figure is things got very rough out there and she must have gotten her neck broke or something. I saw the way he was dragging a hen around this morning by the head. Well, tomorrow, he is no more. I don't need a nasty little ____ (insert your favorite explitive) hurting my girls. It was bad enough that my other Welsummer hen ended up with sour crop this last week, now this? I really like that girl too. Since he is the only real roughneck out there, he has to go. Besides, it wouldn't make any sense to breed that nasty temperament into new birds. I will have to watch any he may have sired that I have hatched recently.

Oh, I know that feeling! Saturday, my turkey tom killed my Polish pullet that accidentally got into his pen and she looked fine but was dead, so I am assuming he broke her neck. I was so mad, I could have killed him with my bare hands at that moment. But then I thought about the money I could get by selling him, and he is now on here for sale. He does it again and he is done for, though.

It is one thing when they are just coming into their 'frisky' stage, but this guy is brutal and when they start dragging the girls around by their heads, that is too far.

My 16 year old daughter and I were watching a crazy male sparrow madly chasing a female around. My daughter said "why can't men just understand NO means NO!" She was, of course, being silly and laughing. No insult intended guys!!!

Its so odd but you hear more and more about young roosters being not just aggressive but brutal! I mean sheesh you expect them to be a little silly as a "teenager" but its beyond that. My mom and I have seen this happening more over the last several years. She's raised chickens for 50 yrs and said that this is definitely not how it used to be. Wonder if its the chemicals in the feed or too much lighting when Chicks or ???? There's other strange things going on with various species, probably environmental to some degree and heck, for that matter, with people too. Remember the news talking about young girls developing at age 9 instead of the normal 13?!
Ugh, whatever is going on Im sorry about your hen and Im in agreement..off with his head!

The deed is done. He will no longer rape, molest or harass another hen. Now he is going into compost for my garden. I would have butchered him, but I have a freezer full of chicken and he wasn't big enough to make much of a meal anyway.
