Office Employees Asking for Money for Fundraisers - Opinions Wanted

I love my work place. I am in an office and we have 2 people with daughters in girl scouts. They share the orders evenly and work that out by them selves but they never go around asking us to buy from them. Since i am in the front office an order form gets set down in my office and then 1 out in the shop for the peopl out there and then each of the girls parents have one in their office. If someone wants something they walk up and do it them selves without being asked. Another one is my boss. His wife and daughter do the 3 day walk for breast cancer. The donation sheets work the same way. They get set in the proper places and who wants to help can. He will also bring in cookie dough or the worlds finest candy bars for their walk to sometimes but it all works the same way and no one is ever bothered.

Well, people have to ask for donations from friends and co-workers because the children are not allowed to go door-to-door anymore. "They" say it is not safe. However, the organizations still need money. What is an alternative? The different groups cannot function and will close without funds. It's a "catch-22".

I know.......but that is just for ONE school year.

I may be looking into another school if they keep it up so much that is it is the point of being so ridiculous. I love the teachers and how they work with kids and surely, they are underpaid but the school can not seem to manage the funds without keeping on with the fundraisers so much. Last year, they did it 8 times plus a few little things like food funds to support the school or some crafts that the kids make and trying to sell.

WOW!!!!!!!! That is krazy !!!!! $400.00 fine? Lot of stipulations place on parents.

The organizations that I DO donate to - always have and always will are:

1. Special Olympics
2. Down's Syndrome
3. Any Cancer involved organizations
4. Anything dealing with Mentally and Physically disabled individuals or illnesses related to.

It is not a fine but if you don't donate so many hours of your time, that amount will be the same for if they had to hire someone to do the job. I'd rather give them the money than going to school to donate my time for an hour or two each Tues/Thurs. I can understand the rising cost of heat but there is a limit how far it can go. And the school is an old building so it cost more to run it.

The longer I stay with this school, the more rules and more money they require. Just last week, they had a BBQ fundraiser and it sold out which I think it is great.

Parents can only go so far on $24,000 a year and two SSI checks for me and daughter. My daughters' almost entire SSI money goes toward her education while we foot the rest of the bill ourselves. Public schools are not an option, our public school is in the low income area and bullying/attacks are commonplace.

Have they thought about getting volunteers to help out and distribute that volunteer time to all of the parents (time donation)? That could help with the tuition. Volunteering is something that I enjoy doing and I would love to donate my time and help out at your school or a school like that.

I don’t think the workplace is a place to solicit donations but that is just me. In my office, if somebody wants to sell something you usually put it on the large table in our nice kitchen and leave a note. If somebody wants it they’ll let you know, if not, you are not bothering anybody. I would be terribly aggravated if people came by my office all the time while I am trying to focus on work. If I feel charitable I will give a certain % of my eggs sales to a animal rescue or something like that, but it would have to be a place within my city where I know the people and needs. I am not a fan of donating to any place where I cannot trace how my money is used, neither do I like it when somebody tries to guilt me into a donation.

That is what they are doing. too many of the parents live too far away or employed. I'm not driving ten miles four times a day for that I am not going to get paid. The school is way north of town and many parents are from neighboring towns or miles from town. I did donate my time but it was a waste, no thank yous or anything to appreciate the time I was there. Probably because I am agnostic, hubby is evolunist (Darwin theory believer) and daughter is Christian that goes to a private Christian school.

ACK! They just posted another BBQ event!
