I had a wellie got all egg eatery on me and I had DH lop her head off. I'm mean. I don't have time for coddling. Ifi t was a hen with a name then sure, I'd have taken some time, but this one has been nothing but a pain from day one so out she goes.

I've been trying to collect some hatching eggs from this bunch, but they've been eating them instead. They're actually really sweet and friendly birds.

The kids on the street are out, my two have 2 weeks left.... next year i'm making them start on Aug 15th with the other kids, so we don't have this end of year goofing off.

Aug 15?! At my kids' school its Sept 7-ish till May 25. And that's in a town where we use legitimate snow days!

Mine go back Aug 15.

Just yesterday I noticed a quarter of a brown egg (no yolk or white that I could see) in the nesting box. It was gooey and so was the hay. I'm not sure what happened... but I did have a moment of thinking one of them may have eaten an egg. Maybe something happened and it broke.. and then they ate it. I have had these hens 8 months and I've never seen this before.

I am not a wintertime person either. I much prefer hot summers. I can't "just go put on layers, or something warm" person .... it just doesn't work for me. I am pretty thin and I have to have some warmth... but I've known all types of people that don't tolerate coldness well. Most places are way overcooled in the summertime. I would prefer it just be cooler inside, not cold. About 68 should do it.

That's often how it starts. One egg gets accidently broken and they discover how good they taste, so start breaking them on purpose. DH had already installed roll-out nest boxes in my main pen, so that's a non-issue, but these OEGB are in a large wire cage as a "breeding pen" and they didn't have a nest box, so they were laying eggs on the wire. I've been seeing broken egg shells under the cage. I'm hoping they like their little roll-out box.
