Awe, sorry dacs and boyd, I meant a thread of interesting women and two dashingly handsome, married men with the extreme confidence of hero's who go toe to toe with the ladies when it comes to spirit, talent and of course brilliance.

Better?

It's all Beaners fault! Every SLW and Cochin hen is hellbent broody, the JG and Orphs are trying to catch up AND now 2 PRODUCTION BRs are psycho evil broody! As in you need chain mail and dragon hide gloves to touch them. 1 yesterday, 1 today. ARGH!

I went outside and had a new broody tonight myself. I had noticed this hen clucking to herself in the mornings a bit, so not too terribly surprised. PLUS, she is my super duper broody girl. Raised either 3 or 4 hatches last year alone. Her sister went broody almost 3 weeks ago. Now she is broody too. YAY ME. I am out of brooders.....so I dragged my extra rabbit hutch up the hill and set it up in front of the garage.

Here is the new girl (in the regular nestboxes, before I moved her)

and here is her sister. Only way I can tell them apart is that their combs don't flop the same.

I do see the family resemblance though! LOL

The broodys who go broody normally are fine. But production layers? The first one has now had 3 ice clutches, and she is still broody as all get out. This is not funny!

Yup, contagious.

I went out this afternoon and found the 2 black broodies on the ledge by the nesting boxes, mad as heck. Turns out Big Bertha went broody and kicked the 2 velociraptors off their shared nest. In the interest of peace, I moved Bertha next door and gave her the eggs that candled as barely started to about 10 days in. That left only the hatching eggs for the raptors, who've been setting for almost 6 weeks now (took 1 set and gave them another during the shift to give birds to LH).

So, by morning I should have 6 new millies under the raptors.

And room in the bator before Bertha hatches the earliest eggs in her clutch.

I wanted to show Bertha again though. Had her entered for KY.
Had TN entered, and then his ladies nuzzled his beard right off his face

Have the GN pullet entered, but she's in a nest box now, too.
Wonder if the fine KY folks will notice if I substitute other birds for 3 of my 4 entries....

BUT! I successfully harrassed a millie off the nest. She tried for 3 days, I persisted for 4.

Y'know what? I think I'll sell all my roosters. They're useless for the next 6-8 weeks anyway

All of my current broodies are cochins. Both large fowl pure cochins? broody. 3 of the bantams broody....2 recently finished. I expect the leghorn mix half blind girl to go next....and if I don't sell the cochin mix POL girls, they will probably go in a couple months.
