Hey, a serious chicken question for a seriously stupid person to ask (that be me) - do some hens have feathers that are just too soft, or not attached very well? The reason I ask: Our teeny little bantam cochin rooster has been mating all the hens, not excessively by any means, and the senior hens have finally begun accepting his attentions. I have not witnessed one single feather lost until I saw him mating Sunflower (BO) the other day - he hopped off and a bunch of her feathers just rained off. She's finally growing the feathers back she lost from the last rooster (who was very large, and very aggressive). I'm going to put a saddle back on her but I'm just curious about the feather thing since none of the other hens are having an issue. I suppose she could be molting, but I haven't seen any other feather loss.
