Problem is the drama llamas have the brains of a dumb guinea. So they'd not get it at all.

Baby horse, awwwwwwww...................... Do not need more horses, do not need more horses...... Now is not a good time for another horse.......

I really want to ask a stupid newbie question...but...don't want the entire forum to think I'm an idiot. You guys already know I am, so it's safe to ask in here.

I'd really like to get another rooster, but DH is adamantly opposed because he doesn't like how rough the last roo (production red) was with the hens (they were bald, backs and heads). Are there any breeds that are more likely to produce a roo that will be more careful with the hens? I know nothing is a given, but it's kind of like the odds of a QH being more level-headed than an Akhal Teke, you know?

My orps have always been good with the girls. I had a barred rock who was a bit rough though.

What is a good average brooder size? I have these cabinets from the store that are 13x43 or 23 x 43 width and depth. They have glass doors but I figure I could make mesh fronts for them. And they are coated with a water proof vinyl so they'd be easy to clean? Does that sound big enough?

I have two of the smaller size that I thought would be good for the bantams. The other three would be for the larger - orp chicks?

yes? no? maybe?

Oh and the house is done enough I am comfortable moving on to writing and surfing. It is so nice to have a swept floor and all the dishes away!

Orchy - not really, boys are boys pretty much. You can try chicken saddles, tho' our girls think they are stupid.

Tried those. He pushed 'em right up with his feet and pulled out their feathers anyway.

Although the saddles did at least keep their backs somewhat warm after the rooster was dispatched until their feathers grew back in.

Maybe I am destined to be roosterless. For a guy who professes not to like chickens, DH sure is protective of "my" hens.

10 minutes left, weeeee........ DS is hanging out here, dropped DD off at her job and came back to see Mom. Ok, yeah, I'm a total dork and dweeb but I love when my nearly adult kids come see me because they want to, not for begging money.
