My Tips cat is a dilute tortie. She has one little white spot on her chest and one on the very tippy end of her tail...hence DH naming her Tips.

Here's a picture of my rotten cat that lived under the shed and pretended she didn't know us all winter long. Once she crossed the threshold back into the house, she acts like she's never been gone. Cats!

She looks a little like the pictures of Nella's new cat. Are you collecting black cats or something, Beaner?

Your rotten cat thinks she's pretty cool sitting on Jacob's pillow, doesn't she?

Yup, for fun on kitty colors...

Orange and peach are sex linked, they are on the X chromosome. Peach is the dilute of the orange. The orange gene covers over the other color gene basically when it shows up on the kitty.

So a girl is XX - black
Or XXo - torti - black and orange
Or XoXo - orange

But a boy is XY - black
or XoY - orange.

White is a masking color, so it doesn't play along with these genes.

DS 18 just took a genetics class in HS, I learned also.

You're welcome.

Someone looked at me the other day and said, "You know the weirdest stuff!"

Um... thanks?

It was because I knew the ingredients for dandelion wine.

For a happy story...

Our old kitty, Mojo, was the world's ugliest cat. Scruffy, ratty even with good food and being inside, mud colored. Very stand offish, didn't like to be around people. In June 18 years ago, he was inside with us to heal up from a nasty fighting abscess, then we were going to let him back outside.

DS was in his crib, 5 weeks old. Mojo always just sat in the room with DS, not in his crib, but just in the room. I was tired and laying down while DS napped. Mojo came TEARING out of the room screaming bloody murder, leapt up on my chest SCREAMING at me, ran back to DS while screaming, full fluffed up and was just making a horrid sound. I got up and ran to DS, thinking Mojo had done something. DS had stopped breathing. Once I picked him up, he woke up and started breathing again. Well, I'm a paniced 21 y/o new Mom, took DS to ER. He had early stages of RSV.

Mojo never did go back outside. He was buried out by the rose bush 4 years ago. Still miss his ugly mug.

Excellent story!

Currently doing math with the genuis kid. I wish I could get as excited as he gets about anything.
