Put them with ME! Duh.

But the drive to come see them every night would be a killer...

Compensation would be beach time.

I love my BO and I think it would be fun to have a bunch of them in different colors. I like color variety. You should see the inside of my house!

No breeding for me, though, I just want a colorful bunch of hens.

You're so bad. I'll be absolutely positive once I've spent a ridiculous amount of time and money tracking down, shipping and anxiously awaiting my new chicks.

I wish my hubby would be like that. He never agrees to anything no matter what mood he's in.

That reminds me!

Did you see my post where DH said he'd be more willing to let me have an alpaca than agree to a foster child?
Well, I talked to DD about that, so she's know I was following up on her wishes but not really gaining ground.
She said she understood, and that if I get an alpaca she'll lead it around and tell everyone she wanted a baby brother but got an alpaca

She also said that since I had sub-approval I should go ahead and get one! Smart kid!

I said I'd wait until I had less than 50 chickens again

Also, we discussed how things happen for a reason and I'd get an alpaca when the time was right. She was cool with that.

When I first saw it, as DH pointed it out as a possible loon, my instantaneous thought was auk. But then I thought auks were extinct? (What bird am I thinking of?) But Google says dovekies are the smallest birds in the auk family. So I felt better.

I could take a picture of the dress I am wearing today but it might get me banned from BYC land. That sounds bad. Lets just say I have a sweater on and I know when to use it.

My house is broody land. If you blink too hard someone goes broody. My cochins are the least broody chickens I own. Don't get me wrong, they go broody and hatch stuff out for me. But my white leghorn/jersey giant cross hens are the broodiest creatures ever. They makes silkies look non-broody. My youngest one who hatched in mid to late March just started laying a month or so ago. she is broody now. Sigh. The 4 from last year have all gone broody....a couple multiple times. They even go broody in pairs and help each other out. My half blind broody has raised a batch and then went broody again. Another hen has raised two batches. They just turned 1 year old in September! Crazy hens.

My jersey giant hen also went broody. Crazy birds.

I've had broody large fowl cochins, bantam cochins, silkie, jersey giant, white leghornX......i think that might be it. The winners of the broody contest were the white leghornXs by far.

Did I make my point about this being an amazing cross yet? LOL

Lori, I did note that conversation you had about fostering/alpaca-ing. I was so happy for you, in a subtle indifferent way that is.

I think an alpaca is a superior substitute for a sibling.

Don't get hatchery birds. read up on the threads about folks breeding lavender orps. There's bound to be a breeder near you who has other colors available as a by-product, and they'd much bigger healthier birds (heritage vs hatchery argument).

I told DD it would actually fill 2 of her wishes, since it's a lot closer to a dog than DH will ever agree to....

I really don't think DH will budge on the fostering thing, so at least I broke the news to DD is a subtle way that was non- teary or confrontational. Always good, in my book!
