I could take a picture of the dress I am wearing today but it might get me banned from BYC land. That sounds bad. Lets just say I have a sweater on and I know when to use it.
My house is broody land. If you blink too hard someone goes broody. My cochins are the least broody chickens I own. Don't get me wrong, they go broody and hatch stuff out for me. But my white leghorn/jersey giant cross hens are the broodiest creatures ever. They makes silkies look non-broody. My youngest one who hatched in mid to late March just started laying a month or so ago. she is broody now. Sigh. The 4 from last year have all gone broody....a couple multiple times. They even go broody in pairs and help each other out. My half blind broody has raised a batch and then went broody again. Another hen has raised two batches. They just turned 1 year old in September! Crazy hens.
My jersey giant hen also went broody. Crazy birds.
I've had broody large fowl cochins, bantam cochins, silkie, jersey giant, white leghornX......i think that might be it. The winners of the broody contest were the white leghornXs by far.
Pair of white leghornX broodies with new babies
White leghornx broody (half blind hen) with a barred cochin broody and their new babies
Broody pile of hens (2 cochins, 1 white leghornX half blind hen)
Broody leghornX plus baby
Broody leghornX plus older babies (half blind hen)
Broody leghornX x 2 plus rooster and babies
Broody leghornX x 2 with singleton baby
Did I make my point about this being an amazing cross yet? LOL
