At this moment it's sunny and 34, darkness is from about 4:30 PM to 6:30 AM. Yes, here on the Outer Cape there's lots of empty National Seashore property (woods, fire roads and beaches) to ride on.
However, properties that can accommodate horses are few and far between. There are no formal barns to board a horse at, only ramshackle home barns for only a couple horses. As you can surmise, agriculture is not a tradition here. Oysters & clams grow better than corn.
I keep waiting for horses to come back into my life. God usually plops me in the way of someone with more than one horse who needs an experienced and responsible (i.e. someone who shows up early to muck out, do grooming, take tack home to clean, contribute to feed costs and agree to horse-sit when owner is out of town) riding partner. My last friend like that moved to Maine three years ago. My gorgeous saddle has been in the attic cubby space ever since. [sniff sniff]
