What is considered “fully feathered”?
Obviously not the same as if they were to be able to be kicked out side kind of “fully feathered” I’d imagine ?

I have a pretty young flock right now and am unsure if I’m able to enter them as they are still filling out their full adult feathers but my one cockerel might make it if his feathers hurry up in this next week and a bit :fl

The Ameraucanas and Marans are going to take a lot longer based on their size and looks right now vs how I know them to look.. it’s what I get for wanting them so much I guess :thlol

How old are they? I would imagine birds over 2 months old will qualify, we need to see feathers related to the breed and sex, not baby fuzz. :)

I've also interpreted it the same way TwoCrows did. Anything over 8 weeks should be good. That being said, that wouldn't be enough for male-specific feathering to have come in, but you can tell by the comb at that point

Anything under four months old is really hard to judge to SOP, because the birds still have a lot of filling out to do. They could for sure be entered, but if they're in the purebred category, they won't score as highly as a mature bird will, if we judge to the SOP.

Darn. I'm screwed. I've only got three out of 17 birds that could potentially be entered then :lau

Let me tag the egg-spert. :D @Pyxis

If we were going by show rules, a bird that isn't a recognized variety could still be entered and scored, but in a show it couldn't win anything higher than Best of AOV. We'd have to discuss how we wanted to handle that with judging.

Thanks so much for this information @Pyxis!

You are the expert on judging these, I am only here for the pretty birds! :D If it were up to me, they would all win. :gig
