Ended Official BYC 2024 Summer Fair—Indoor Plant Show

This is an African Violet, I started it with 2 leaves potted in dirt. This is the second year it has flowered. It has variegated, wavy leaves. The underneath of the leaves are purple. It has purple ruffled flowers with white trims and a yellow center. View attachment 3905573
I have tried to grow African violets a few times in my life and just don't know why they don't do so well for me. You make it look easy. A leaf in the dirt gets you this? Wow!

My favorite plant, Papi.

He is a croton. He is 2 years old and such a handsome fella. He’s always pushing out new leaves.

I shouldn't have said dirt it's actually potting soil, sorry.

Through trial and error, really more error than anything else, I think I figured out what African Violets like. They like filtered sunlight, humidity, and don't touch my leaves. The humidity was taken care of by putting the plants in the kitchen/dining area. Bathroom is OK too. Filtered sunlight, if it's to bright put a sheer curtin up.

Take 2 leaves with long stems off an established Violet. Put the stem of the leaves into the little cup with semi-damp potting soil. 20240801_210936.jpg 20240801_210957.jpg I use yarn for a wick, made little drain holes with nail clippers. Put little cup in a saucer and add water by way of wick when needed. It will seem like forever but one day it is! 20240322_110959.jpg Wait until the new plant get big before transplanting. Do not transplant into a pot too big, the plant doesn't like it. 20240416_100146.jpg

Thank you for the tips! ❤️ I don’t know anyone with one nearby so I’ll buy yet another, but this time I’ll pay more attention to where I put it, and our bathroom sounds perfect for it. I’ll also sneak a couple leaves and try start my own. ☺️

Mini monstera, Mike, taking over

This is cool! :love

Until I zoomed in, I thought it was a Swiss cheese plant, which is a monstera. I have one I think I could get to do that. Thanks for the idea! I keep pruning as it grows like a weed, but I’ll move it and let it grow up the wall. 😊

Maybe start it on a wood plank, where it can attach itself better. I remember seeing a really good video about it back when I was interested in philodendron. Let me see if I can go find it
