Ended Official BYC Contest: Worst Chicken Molt Pictures, Fall-Winter 2013

It's a little warm where I live, so I shall post them later. My rooster is starting to molt, but it's not that bad

My rooster is molting one section at a time. It takes him like 3 weeks to loose and regrow a section. After that section, he has the same amount of time for the next. At this rate, he'll be molting 'till February! :)

This is Betty our Australorp. Poor thing is clinging on to her one remaining tail feather. Yesterday she had two. The picture doesn't quite do her justice. She looks pretty pathetic in person :) She will be entering the "all other breeds" category.

Oh my gosh. My heart just broke a little bit.... one sad tail feather. If she was mine I would just hug her 24/7 just because I couldn't bear not to!

Wow,

are these chickens OK ... we've had many chickens thru the years and never had any of them go bald while molting ... with our other birds this is a sign or plucking or disease .

She won't win, but here's poor Willow (an easter egger), entering "All Other Breeds"
Her back is entirely pinfeathers too, but we put a protective fleece "cape" on her to keep the other chickens from trying to eat her pinfeathers.

"Are you seriously taking my photo when I look like this?!"

Nambroth, I was wondering about that fleece cape. Is this something you made or purchased? Can you give me some information? I have 2 chickens that are molting (easter egger and my black sex link). Unfortunately I have another chicken that keeps getting after the pin feathers on the back of the black sex link. How long does it take for them to regrow the feathers and start laying again?

My little red. She is one of last years straight run sex links I got from Tractor Supply so she will be "all other breeds". There were three of them that were worse. She has grown some back, another grew a lot back, and the third got out away from the house and I suspect something ate her :(
I was glad to see that they are trying to feather back up before winter. I am trying to NOT put a heat light in with them this year. I was advised that they are winter hardy and that the heat is actually contrary to that.
