Ended Official BYC DIY Contest #1 - Show us Your Project and Win!

I've done this for years and always recommend it to anyone with babies..I even sent a wire frame and heating pad with my last babies I sold bc the girl was using a heat light and I dint want them having to use a light after a week with the heating pad mama..works just as good if not better than the Brinsea one and just have to wipe the pad down with some bleach water in between sets of babies ♡♡
Then you are another pioneer in this, and those of us who have come after are in your debt! Thank you! I always make sure to note that this was not my idea, that I just compiled the how-tos and whys into one thread and posted it. It is, beyond a doubt, the best and safest way to raise chicks - I believe that with my whole little chicken heart!

I agree a thousand times over ♡♡ I'm sure I wasn't the first, but I cringe when I see people pay $80+ for the EcoGlow.. I pay $12 for my heating pad at a Dollar General..I brood inside only, but I saw a YouTube video recently of a lady using one when temps were under 40 degrees out

ETA: if you're thread isn't a sticky , it should be..Ive been thinking about making some up with a nicer frame and taking them to swaps to see if others would be interested ..

I know exactly which video that was - it was made by Patrice Lopatin. It's the one that got this idea planted in my little head, and then Beekissed sorta reinforced it for me. I brood my chicks outside in a pen in the run using nothing but this system, and it was in the teens and twenties. I'm sold!

I'm amazed that so many people have embraced this idea. I really expected a lot more skepticism because the heat lamp is so firmly entrenched in chick raising. And I thank you for the kind words, truly! And now I'd better quit hijacking the thread.

I just read the things BYC wants to see on this thread. It doesn't say Candler anywhere. A fellow member WVduckchick and I came up with a really good Ideal for a dark egg Candler, for viewing dark eggs in very brightly lite rooms .It uses a LED bulb a 110v. track light fixture IT's just a

box Candler with a twist and turn or two the the egg is really sitting straight .Its the picture taker that's sideways

Excellent idea! You need to make a "member page" so we can enter your idea in the contest!

Nice feeder Aart! Will you smear the trigger with something they like to train them to use it? I was wondering if jelly would work?

I've been kicking an idea around for a few months too, finally had a chance to throw my nest box prototype together today. I wanted a REVERSIBLE egg roll out and this is what it looks like so far.....

This is only one set of two nests, in my coop they will be stacked three high (times two) on each side of the trailer/coop.

Hope someone can use this

Cool

If this has been covered, I apologize....I read the rule post, and didn't see if there was a limit to how many entries one person can have. I do have another "invention" that I think people using fermented food might find helpful, but I already entered a brooder setup.

Edited to add: Well, I made the page anyway. I figured even if having two entries wasn't allowed, maybe someone could use this idea anyway. Besides, I'm a rebel!
