We all know how much dust those birds can create, so I'm just wondering who wears some kind of respiratory protection when they are in and around the coop - and when!

Have you had any issues from not wearing a mask?

I dont wear a mask. Bible tells me only to cover my face if I am sick....if i am sick im probably not cleaning the coop. I do take precautions- i dont stir up dust and particles , i step away and take breaks... so far no problems ❤️🐔🙏🌷🥚🐣

I only wear a mask sometimes- mostly when I do spring cleaning. as a Microbiologist I know the best answer is one should ideally wear a mask all of the time when doing extensive cleaning of the coop based on the infectious agents which may be present in the droppings. Even more important though is wearing gloves and doing thorough hand washing after.

There are a group of us who take care of a flock, about 5 households. During Covid we'd clean the coop in pairs so we'd mask up and it made a difference so is something I've continued even when it's just me with my small flock.
I'm exposed to a lot of airborn dust and fibers at work. The mask makes a difference there too. Lungs aren't meant for storing gunk in.

I probably should wear a mask all the time but after the pandemic and mask requirements, I avoid them as much as possible. When I do a deep clean, I make an exception. When the task is done, the mask is black inside and out.

No mask for me. I have a very small coop with a bedding drawer that gets cleaned once a week, it's a bit dusty but I usually stand upwind of where I'm working. I do a deep litter method with construction sand in the run and usually just spot clean that every morning/ whenever it looks gross. There's not too much dust flying around, or I just hold my breath :p
