My chickens got their names for a combination of appearance and personality: Chungus, Buddy, Dimple, Cuddles, Brownie, and Dingus. All of the names still feel pretty spot on for how they've turned out except for Brownie, who initially had dark brown striped wings and tail feathers. She kept that chocolatey color long enough to learn her name, and she's now easily my lightest bird with a lot of white flecks in her body feathers and the rest more of a cream to butterscotch color lol. So I'm going to retroactively say she's named for the folklore Brownie that's a mischievous house fairy sort of thing, since she fooled me good.
Chungus and Dingus lolol

I named my Polish Soufflé because her head looked like a soufflé, I named my BR Henny Penny after the children's book, I named my OE Pearl because she looked like a Pearl, I named my silver phoenix Cleopatra because she acted regal, and I named my Crèvecœur Fleur because her crest looks like a flower

I names mine after famous people I like, sort of. The one that flew and escaped from her run over and over is Bessie, after Houdini's wife. The one who is totally food driven is Bourdy, after Anthony Bourdain. and the one who was consistently overlooked and the underdog was Millie, after Einstein's wife

I love it!! Poor Meleva.

I don't name my chickens. They either name themselves or they don't get a name. Until they define a name either by their personality, or special look, or a coincidental event...they are called sweetie or something similar. Big Daddy Roo was named because he was my original Rooster and was in charge until he died. Senator was named for her neverending filibuster...

Ours have themes.

Silkies get their names based off of color.
Bianca- italian word for white
Nero- italian word for black
And so on. Different languages have really funny words for color, names like Dudu, Fun fun, and Pupu.

The roos (standard not bantam) get named after guys like Hulk Hogan and The Rock.

Especially quirky birds get unthemed names
Squeaks- lets her eggs slip out wherever
Tweety- always has something to say
Peanut- sweet and friendly like our very own @the_peanut_coop
Thank you, @Everose , You're going to make me cry...

Anyway, Mine are nut names, but I've given them all code names....

I don't remember all of them but I know these ones pretty well...

Peanut = Pillbug
Chesstnut= 3.14

I don't have any pattern I know of... Unless someone can find one:
Pippin- from lord of the rings
Fries- because chips are yummy
Pickles- inside joke
Kiwi- brown and spikey like a kiwi
Blue- veloceraptor from jurassic park
Clover- clover the 4-legged chick @Cecisflock
Darwin- the scientist
Basil- because it's cute
Raven- fully black
Ginger- has some orange on him

Names for my future d'uccles:
Peanut- @the_peanut_coop
Popcorn- mille fleur looks like popcorn, my dad chose it
Noodles- it's cute
Nutmeg- why not?
Sesame- mille fleur looks like sesame seeds
Y'all gonna make me cry!! If I had more chicks I would name them after each BYC user that ever existed!!!

I name mine whatever comes to mind. But I love giving them cute old fashioned names or musical names. For instance: Christine, Flora Belle, Silvia, Winifred, Jean Val Jean, and Peggy (get it like Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy haha? No...ok). And of course some classics like Pipsqueak and Oreo. And my kids name some like Nugget and Shazam.
