Had 8 chickens, bought ten baby chicks last Sat. and my broody hen hatched 9 chicks the past couple days. Sadly, one fell out of the cage, one of the RIR pullets got to it before I could and killed it.

RJ, the RIR daddy, quickly chased the pullet away, and settled down by the dead chick clucking unhappily. I went over and gently picked up the lifeless chick. After I had the chick in my hands, RJ grabbed that darn pullet, and taught her a lesson. She must've understood, because she ignores the chicks now.

We have 12- buff brahmas 9 females, 3 possible males, they are 5 weeks old & 6- Banty chicks (unknown kind & sex at this time), they are 19 days old.

I have not had chickens for sometime and decided to get a few for eggs just for us. I have 1 Austolop and 2 EE old birds that my daughter gave me. Should be getting a barred rock roo in a few days. Hope to raise some chicks. Love to watch a hen with chicks.
