Official BYC Poll: How many chickens do you have?

Rolling Hills Farm in Marilla, NY - we have: 3 Red Stars, 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Jersey Giants, 2 Black Australorps, and 2 Plymouth Rocks. Just got into hens this past May and can't imagine why we didn't do it sooner - our girls are a joy. We're thinking of adding 5 Golden Comets.

I only have one Welsummer Rooster - Kellogg, 1 Welsummer hen - Henny, and 1 Barred Rock - Pebbles. I want to get 4 more hens for Kellogg. Then, I believe that will be my limit!!!

I quit counting long ago. I don't really want to know. I do know that I use 50 pounds of feed a day, and I gather about 4 or 5 dozen eggs a day.

I have about 3 dozen girls near point of lay, and a heck of a lot of babies and roosters.

We have 19 hens. We did have 20 but one turned out to be a rooster--a late bloomer! He is no longer with us.

I didn't know gathering eggs could be so much fun.

Wow - I have 26 total

2 Birchen Cochin Bantams - 1 hen 1 great roo
6 EE hens - 3 are Bantams - 1 large is totally blind (she is 5 1/2 and still producing a lot of eggs!)
6 Black Tailed White Japanese - 1 hen and 1 great roo and 4 chicks 6 weeks old
6 D Anver - 3 Quail hens 2 white hens 1 beautiful white roo
1 Salmon Fav - hen
1 Welsummer - hen
1 Red silkie roo (was supposed to be a hen - lost his mate this week

1 Cuckoo Maran hen
1 BLRW hen
1 Buff Cochin hen

I started out a little over a year ago wanting "just 2 hens"

Present count:
5 laying* hens
2 month-old chicks

*subtract: 1 getting over 3mo broody spell & 1 in mid-moult
I am down to 2-3 eggs/day

112 today, am rehoming 1 roo today, but still have about 45 roos to go.....that'll at least drop me below 100....at least until next year
