Let's get to the bottom of this for sure!

  1. Are there specific breeds you know are missing? If so, which ones?
  2. When did you last see them on the site? (e.g., a week ago, a month ago, a year ago? On the current system, on the old system, etc?)

OK I found the Jaerhon- it is under "Norweigan Jaerhon" and I was looking under the "J's."

I don't see California Whites and I could have sworn they were there before- maybe I am just remembering wrong???

Egyptian Fayoumis (or Fayoumis) I couldn't find, and I thought someone had done a review before.
But I may be remembering wrong here too.

....ok I did a bing search...
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/egyptian-fayoumi
this is a member page and not a breed page

OK I am not remembering wrong...

here is a page that I remember reading before-
https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/fayoumis

and yet if you go here
https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/chicken-breeds/page/10
and scroll through you (at least I) cannot find it anywhere in the list under "E" or "F."

Thanks Nifty Chicken for your vigilance and patience (and your website)!

OK I searched with bing and didn't find a Cali. White breed page so it was not in existence after all...I apologize for that.

Also I can't find the D'Uccles (Belgian d'Uccles). Is it just me?

Here is the one I found with bing that I remember reading before. But now it isn't on the list (under "Dorking").

Thanks again Nifty!

Also if you look under the "O's" I cannot find Orpington.
There doesn't seem to be Rhode Island Red except for bantam.

It seems a lot of the pages are missing??

I only looked for sumatra and seen it was gone there was over 100 breeds listed after the big byc switch, its probably been a couple of months since I last seen the one where you could choose how many breeds showed up on a page at a time, as I would always choose 200 to see them all on one page hope this helps

I like that it is alphabetical. It's much easier to find a particular breed that way. I also like the filters. There are, however, many many common breeds missing that were there last spring-- Australorps, Easter Eggers, Rhode Island Reds (large fowl), Orpingtons, Leghorns, Welsummer, Wyandotte, Brahma, Cochin, Silkie, Delaware,Ameraucana (there are more I can't remember right now). These are breeds I researched reading through the "breeds" section last spring and they are missing now. Hope fixing the Orpington bug will bring back the other excellent reviews. (Or maybe I just don't know how to find them?)

Also, I think listing the varieties (the colors) as separate breeds is going to be confusing. Plymouth Rocks are Plymouth Rocks, but there are varieties of this breed such as barred, white, partridge, penciled... These are the same breed, but listed as if they are different breeds. Is there a way to keep the variety subset under the main breed. If you look up Plymouth Rock, you might read a review for white or barred. Some breeds have loads of color varieties and the list will be huge and ungainly if you allow each color to be listed separately.

i have a difficult time using the current breeds sort system. the sort system used when I joined BYC was easier for me and seemed to be more complete. This system seems to stress unusual breeds, not the normal dual purpose breeds. Is that the intention?

I also have a hard time with the current system. Usually if I am looking for information on a breed I am looking for a specific one. I can discover new ones in the general forum area.
