A friend of mine recently lost a couple of chicks to snakes. He planted 3 rows of onions and garlic around the coop. Seems to have worked deter snake attacks.

Raccoons are the worst.
We have 1 raccoon that we can't get rid of. We call him Mr. Fat Raccoon (we are only 12 and 13). We have lost 5 chickens. We also have a rat problem.into the coop and kill, then leave the body.
 
I've only kept chickens for a brief period, and in that short time the only predator that would eat my chickens was a vixen along with her kits. Lived in a fairly suburban area too. Don't see many foxes here. But somehow one managed to find a way into my coop.
