We started by moving and repurposing a garden shed on our property, and built an attached run. Then had a carpenter add a shed extension on one side, and finally hired another carpenter to build a roofed open air coop/ run addition. All on an old 16'x 24'

concrete building foundation.
FINALLY it's really good!

Pictures with the sheet vinyl we add over the hardware cloth walls for winter, with upper areas open for ventilation.
Below is a detail of the open walls without the sheet vinyl, and before it was all stained.

I have three coops. This one I built from scratch with new materials. It used to house my layers and is empty for the moment.

This next one I built entirely from scratch using 90% salvaged materials. The walls are pallets. the floors are scrap wood. The framing is mostly 2x4's taken off pallets. Just bought the roof new. This us how I built it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ild-8x4-coop-for-about-250-pic-heavy.1373989/ It houses guineas.

Lastly, my pride and joy. I built this 10x12 shed from a kit. Only the roof angles came pre cut. Everything else I cut and built myself. It houses 27 girls and 2 roos.

Ohhhhhh the last one! My dream coop is a shed to coop conversion that is that big!!

The first one we converted from a lean to with a mix of new and scrap materials. The roof is made from metal sheets that were the siding on the lean to. The run is still a work in progress but no longer consists of a child's playpen and is much larger. I'll update with a new pic when it's finished, but don't hold your breath. I used @DobieLover 's interior for inspiration 😊 20200811_153603.jpg 20200811_153709.jpg

The small coop was from scratch. We used mostly new materials but some scrap from the first build. It's only a week old so I'm still painting the outside to match the other coop, but I should be done with that tomorrow and then will get an exterior pic.

The coop structure was left behind from previous homeowner. We built a run from new materials and fencing. We have LOTS of aerial predation, so we used PVC pipes & connectors to make a peaked roof. Then we enclosed the run 100% with steel fencing, chicken wire and some hardware mesh cloth, from underground skirting to the peak of the structure.

Old hot tub I took apart, some flooring my brother-in-law gave me, the only thing I bought was shingles and wire, 2x4s were left over scrap from work. 100% self build from scrap.
